Emil Meyers Construction Inc. 50th anniversary

An old wooden desk that’s been through a fire and numerous floods sits squarely in the center of Corky Meyers’ office. Sturdy but worn, the office anchor belonged to Meyers’ father, Emil, and has been a fixture at the business for many years.

Kara’s Cupcakes opened in the Oxbow Public Market this week, to the delight of cupcake lovers. The first Kara’s opened in San Francisco in 2006. Owner and executive pastry chef Kara Haspel Lind said, “We are thrilled to be a part of the Oxbow Market. This bakery will allow us to expand our community awareness and continue our close relationships with our vendors while supporting their artisan methods of production.”

Outside the trust

Dear Len & Rosie, My husband died three weeks ago. He had a trust of his own. If he has some accounts that are not in the trust, and have no beneficiary listed, who inherits those? He has two sons. I, his wife, am co-executor of his will and co-trustee of his trust with his oldest son. -- Margot
