Vintage High School’s 4-6 overall record and fourth-place finish in the Monticello Empire League last year didn’t sit well with Billy Smith, the Crushers’ head football coach.

Solano hammers NVC softballers

The Napa Valley College softball team lost both games of a Bay Valley Conference doubleheader Monday to visiting Solano Community College-Fairfield, 10-4 in Game 1 and 4-2 in Game 2.

The annual Napa High spiritleader tryouts are open to the public and will be held on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. in the Napa High School Messner Gym.

Raiders youth football, cheer sign-ups start

Napa JV celebrates softball tourney title

Napa High’s junior varsity softball team, above, beat Vintage 3-2 to win the Napa Easter softball tournament. “Each and every Indian contributed to the tourney win and coach Kristin Ashley and I couldn’t have been prouder of the effort given by our 12 daughters,” coach Erin Lawley said.

Young wrestling stars sparkle at nationals

The Napa Sheriff’s Activities League wrestling club had five representatives, all of whom are coaches, at the USA National Championships. Held at the Las Vegas Convention Center, it involved all levels, including women and college divisions, and featured Greco-Roman and freestyle wrestling, drawing participants from all over the country, plus members of the Armed Forces.

Wildlife encounters not just for trophies

Memorable outdoor moments come in many forms. Of course you always remember that giant bass you landed, the huge buck you shot, or that beard-dragging turkey you bagged. You have pictures to remind you of these feats, and probably a trophy on your wall as well.
