Varsity Track & Field: Indians shine at Stanford

Three members of Napa High stars qualified to participate at the prestigious Stanford Invitational over the weekend. The meet accepts only the highest ranked competitors in the state and attracts one of the strongest high school fields in the country.

Media: Vintage AD to be on KVON

Vintage High School athletic director Dave Shipp will be the guest of the “KVON Sportsvine” April 4. The show starts at 9 a.m. on KVON-1440 AM and is hosted by Terry Simpkins, Charles Kennedy and Mark McLeod.

Varsity Track & Field: Crusher relay teams sparkle

Vintage relay teams did well at the Stanford Invitational. The Distance Medley Relay ran 10:55 and finished 1th in their heat and 12th out of 42 teams. Dylan Buterbaugh led off with the 1,200 meters (3:27), followed by Kevin Brohaugh (400 in 53 seconds), Rudy Reyes (800 in 2:03) and Andrew Deck, who passed several runners while anchoring the team with a 4:27 in the 1,600. The same four finished third in their heat of the 1,600-meter relay and 21st overall, with a season best of 3:30.8. Brohaugh led off in 54 seconds, followed by Deck (52.0), Buterbaugh (who passed four runners with a 53.0) and Reyes (51.0).

Freshman Baseball: Justin-Siena splits pair

Raymond Giancarlo Luna Morales had a single, double and a triple to lift the Braves to a 12-10 win and a doubleheader split with Redwood. He also pitched 6 2/3 innings to pick up the win. Doug Croft had three hits and scored three runs. Trey Boles had two hits, one a double, and scored three runs. He also got the final out of the game to get a save.

Youth Swimming: Napa Valley stars qualify

Nineteen members from Napa Valley Swim Team have qualified for the Pacific Swimming Far Western Age Group Short Course Championship Swim Meet, to be held April 2-5 at Morgan Hill Aquatic Center in Morgan Hill. This is an extremely competitive age group swim meet where swimmers must achieve stringent time standards in order to qualify. Teams not only come from throughout California but from throughout the United States and Canada.
