The St. Helena High baseball team defeated visiting Calistoga 13-3 on Wednesday in a game that was called after five innings because of the mercy rule.

The Indians (7-3) scored four runs in the first inning, six in the third and two in the fifth to win Wednesday’s nonleague game by the mercy rule in Mill Valley.
Varsity Softball: Fairfield 3, Vintage 2 (9 innings)
In Wednesday’s MEL opener against the defending league co-champions in Fairfield, Sara Navarro’s RBI double gave the Crushers a 2-1 lead in the top of the seventh inning. But the Falcons tied it up in the bottom half to send the game into extra innings.
Men's College Golf: Napa Valley seventh in tournament
Chad Patton and James Parker each shot 75 for the Storm, who were seventh in the Big 8 Conference’s fifth tournament at Bidwell Park in Chico Tuesday.

The winning singles players for Vintage Wednesday were No. 4 Shanice Watts (21-14, 21-10), No. 5 Stephanie Angeles (21-10, 21-13), No. 6 Dorothy Huynh (15-21, 21-16, 21-9), and No. 7 Jonna Rose Palma (24-22, 21-16).
Varsity Girls Swimming: Rodriguez 100, Justin-Siena 55
Kelsey Minigan, Chelsea Lazzari, Alli Channels and Kimmie Kreuzberger teamed to win the 200 free relay in the Braves’ road loss on Wednesday in Fairfield. Channels also won the 200 free and 500 free, Kreuzberger took the 200 individual medley and 100 butterfly, and Minigan claimed the 50 free and 100 backstroke.
Youth Wrestling: SAL wrestlers compete
The Napa Sheriff’s Activities League wrestling club opened up its Greco Roman and freestyle season at Silver Creek High School-San Jose.
JV Girls Swimming: Rodriguez 82, Justin-Siena 67
In a thrilling meet where the lead changed seven times on Wednesday, the Braves ran out of eligible swimmers for the last event could not overcome the Mustangs. Winning for Justin-Siena were Meghan Gallagher, Paulina Battegazore, Leiska Van Staaveren and Elena Koerper in the 200 free relay; T. Kreuzberger in the 50 fly and 200 free, Gallagher in the 100 IM and 100 breaststroke, and Van Staaveren in the 100 free.
JV Boys Swimming: Rodriguez 70, Justin-Siena 64
The Braves led going into the meet-ending 400 free relay but did not have enough eligible swimmers to compete in the event. Winning for Justin-Siena were Ilija Medan, Kien Nguyen, Alex Semien and Matt Risso in the 200 medley relay, Risso in the 200 free and 500 free, Semien in the 100 IM and 100 back, Nguyen in the 50 free and 100 breaststroke, and William Bell in the 100 free. David Gerardi chipped in with personal bests in his events.
Napa baseballers shine in tournament
The Napa Valley Baseball Club under-11 team finished second in the Nor Cal Travel Ball March Madness Tournament in Manteca. The team is leaving for Arizona to play in the USSSA Spring Championship Super NIT in Arizona on March 27 through Sunday, March 29th. The team has three championships in the six tournaments entered. Fishing report: Sturgeon bite strong in south end of Napa River

Nate Silverman and his brother and were out at the Sea Ranch on a recent outing when he hooked this 68-inch sturgeon following a 30-minute battle. Its estimated weight was between 55 and 60 pounds. The trip was Silverman’s first time fishing for sturgeon.
