Justin-Siena's softball team beat Clear Lake 6-3 on Saturday.

PHOENIX — Three years ago, left-handed pitcher Brett Anderson was a high school senior playing baseball in Stillwater, Okla. However, he was definitely not your average high school ballplayer.

“Brother Can You Spare a Dime,” a community organization that takes groups of special and deserving youngsters, senior citizens and the general public to San Francisco Giants baseball games at AT&T Park, is back for its 51st season.

The Napa High School track and field team came away with good results at the Vallejo Relays, which were held Saturday at Corbus Field. Conditions were cold and windy.

The Napa Raiders youth cheer program started their 2008 season in August, with hours of conditioning in preparation for cheering at football games and in competition. The cheerleaders work hard in learning cheers, stunts, and dances to be used at different events. The cheer staff and board of directors spends many hours working to help make for a successful season.

In the Optimist Youth Basketball 11th-12th Grade Boys Division Tournament, Replay Sports, coached by Tyler Nunn, won two vital games this week to advance to the championship game against undefeated Napa Emergency Room Doctors, coached by Jordan and Ethan Speizer.

The Napa Valley Swim Team recently hosted it’s annual Short Course C/B/A+ meet Feb. 20-22 at the Napa Valley College. Over 31 teams and 680 swimmers attended the meet. There were many outstanding swims and new time standards achieved.

Nate Silverman and his brother and were out at the Sea Ranch on a recent outing when he hooked this 68-inch sturgeon following a 30-minute battle. Its estimated weight was between 55 and 60 pounds.  The trip was Silverman’s first time fishing for sturgeon.
