NOTES AND QUOTES for a Monday in the Napa Valley:
Left-hander Jordan Roualdes turned in his best performance of the year, pitching Nebraska to a 10-1 victory over Texas Tech Saturday afternoon in Lubbock, Texas.
Roualdes (2-1), a Justin-Siena High School graduate, allowed one run on five hits over eight strong innings to lead the Huskers. He struck out three and faced just one batter over the minimum between the fourth and seventh innings.
“Jordan did a good job out there today,” Nebraska coach Mike Anderson said on the school’s athletic Web site. “He threw strikes right away, which was good because we did not play well the first three innings.
“That is a different ballgame if Jordan doesn’t come out and pitch like he did.”
Roualdes’ longest outing prior to Saturday was six innings, which came in each of his last two starts. The Sonoma resident has now turned in quality starts in each of his last three starts.

Matt Leonard went six innings to get the win as No. 15 Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo beat host UC Berkeley 10-5 in a non-conference baseball game Saturday afternoon at Evans Diamond.
Leonard (2-0), who starred at Justin-Siena, allowed three runs and eight hits, walked two and struck out one.

Napa golfer Emily Talley fired a final-round 74 and finished in a tie for 51st Sunday for the University of Colorado women’s team at the LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic in Baton Rouge.
Talley had earlier rounds of 75 and 76 at the University Club.

Napa’s Jose Hernandez reached the semifinals in the 3.0 men’s singles division of a March NTRP (National Tennis Rating Program) tournament at ClubSport in Pleasanton.
Hernandez beat Gilbert Lima, also of Napa, 6-4 6-3, in the quarterfinals before downing William Yeh of San Jose, 7-6, 6-4, in the semis.
In the men’s 4.5 senior singles of the NTRP’s Rio Del Oro Open, Zdenek Zahradnicek of Napa beat Gary Anderson of Twain Harte, 6-0, 6-4, in the quarterfinals.
Both are U.S. Tennis Association-Northern California section events.

The Napa Valley College men’s golf team got in a practice round last week at Yocha-De-He Golf Club at Cache Creek in Brooks.
It’s a Brad Bell-designed course that plays over 7,300 yards.
“The guys were really impressed,” said coach Jim Wiechers. “They played really well.”

The Joe DiMaggio Baseball League lost two of its greats with the passing last week of Bud Papadakis, the longtime coach of the San Carlos team, and Carl Vallero, a founding father of the league and a Keith Connelly award winner.
Vallero served on the league’s board of directors for years and was a scout for the San Francisco Giants. He passed away at his grandson’s high school game at Carlmont-San Carlos.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Vallero family,” said Steve Meyer, president of Joe DiMaggio Baseball and a Napa resident.
Papadakis was “a great baseball man. He knew the game inside and out and the players loved him,” said Meyer.
Papadakis died after a lengthy illness.
Services for Papadakis are this morning at 10 a.m. at Menlo Park Presbyterian Church, 950 Santa Cruz Ave., Menlo Park. Services for Vallero are today at 1 p.m. at Duggans Serra Mortuary, 500 Westlake Ave., in Daly City.

The Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame will donate $4,000 to North Vallejo Little League so it can purchase 150 new baseball uniforms that were stolen last week from its facility.
An All-Star trophy that North Vallejo won last year was destroyed by vandals that broke into the concessions building and damaged not only computers and cash registers, but stole baseball equipment and uniforms.
The Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame has donated over $4 million to youth sports programs.
