G-20 faces new, troubled world order
Much has changed since leaders of the Group of 20 nations met in Washington on Nov. 15. President Obama has replaced George W. Bush. A new economic team brimming with ideas has taken the reins in the United States. And the financial crisis that Mr. Obama inherited has, in many respects, intensified.

Dear editor, I support VoteVets.org efforts to repeal the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy of the military.
Making the military stronger
Dear editor, As the president sends more troops to Afghanistan and focuses our energies on the danger in the region, we are reminded that our military is seriously hamstrung by the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy. That policy discharges those in the military who are found to be gay or lesbian. I stand with the veterans of VoteVets.org in calling for the policy to be changed.
Why the assessor rings twice
Dear editor, In a letter to the editor on March 4, Mr. Michael Hinton questioned the rationale for the Napa County Assessor mailing two separate forms to each owner of business property in Napa County (“Two mailings aren’t better than one”). I want to thank the media and Mr. Hinton for the opportunity to explain these mailings.
No on Prop 1A
Proposition 1A is the key ballot measure being placed before the voters in May to address the state budget debacle. I am opposed to it because it does not address the problems facing the state budgets and will amount to nothing more than continuing the same dysfunctional government.
Reaction to Gavin Newsom in Napa
Newsom drew an unexpectedly large crowd, and a very enthusiastic one at that. Being a Republican, I don't often go to what felt like an insider Democratic Party event, and this was a very progressive liberal crowd.
