NOTES AND QUOTES for a Wednesday in the Napa Valley
Haylee Yepson, a freshman from Napa, placed second in the all-around competition for the Seattle Pacific University women’s gymnastics team, which lost a dual meet at UC Davis, 192.350-186.975, on Friday night at The Pavilion.
Yepson, a 2008 Napa High School graduate and a former member of the North Bay Athletic Association, was the Falcons’ top gymnast in her first collegiate all-around appearance. She registered her best marks on three of four events — the bars (9.275), beam (9.5) and floor (9.4).
Yepson was the meet’s all-around runner-up.

Ex-Napa High pitcher Jason Westerberg is a redshirt freshman pitcher for Santa Clara University, which was on the bubble for a 2008 NCAA Regional bid after compiling a 33-22 overall record and finishing third in the West Coast Conference with a 13-8 mark.

Timilick, a championship course in Truckee designed by World Golf Hall of Famer Johnny Miller, a former Napa resident, and John Harbottle, was recently recognized by three publications for its layout and playability.
Golf, Inc., tabbed Timilick in its top 5 for Development of the Year in 2008.
Golfweek named Timilick No. 23 on its Best New Private Courses for 2008.
Links Magazine vaulted Timilick up to No. 8 on its Best New Private Courses for 2008.
The course is located at 6,000 feet with views of Northstar and the Carson Mountain Range.

Former Vintage coach Russ Critchfield leads Butte College (22-8), the Golden Valley Conference champ, into the Northern California Men’s Basketball Regionals. Butte is the No. 10 seed and opens Friday at No. 7 San Jose City College (24-8), the Coast North Conference champion.

Former Vintage and Napa Valley College standout Ryan Wessels had six points and two rebounds in limited minutes as the San Francisco State men’s basketball team beat visiting Cal State Monterey Bay last week, 62-53.

Justin-Siena alum Micah Putnam had two RBIs and a stolen base as the Cal State Northridge softball team defeated Samford Saturday 8-3 in the UTEP Invitational.

Napa High grad Lindsey Dreher’s four assists and three points helped the No. 13 UC San Diego women’s basketball team in a 70-50 California Collegiate Athletic Association women’s basketball win over visiting Cal State Monterey Bay Saturday night at RIMAC Arena in La Jolla.

Napa alum Katie Keilig had five points, one assist and one rebound for visiting Sonoma State in a 58-47 loss to Cal State San Bernardino in basketball play Saturday night.
