Blaze at Silverado Trail home
By MARSHA DORGAN
Register Staff Writer
10 a.m.A home on Silverado Trail went up in flames Wednesday morning, closing the Trail for about two-and-a-half hours.
The home, in the 600 block of the Trail south of Deer Park Road, suffered about $300,000 worth of damge.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, however, fire investigators believe it started in the living room, Napa County Fire Battalion Chief Eric Hoffman said.
The single-story, two-bedroom home was unoccupied when the fire broke out, Hoffman said. “It looks as if the residence is used as a weekend or vacation home.”
The fire was mainly contained to the living area, Hoffman said. “There was extensive heat- and smoke damage throughout the rest of the home.”
The fire was spotted by a group of painters on their way to work, Hoffman said. “They stopped and used a garden hose to put out the fire. They thought they had extinguished it, but it continued to burn until county firefighters arrived on scene.”
