A Napa man, now in custody on suspicion of domestic violence, held more than an dozen law enforcement officers at bay for an hour and half as they tried to talk him out of a house on Moon Mountain Road in Sonoma County on Sunday afternoon.
Richard Holmes, 46, was eventually caught by peace officers and booked into the Sonoma County jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, making criminal threats and domestic battery.
It all started when deputies responded to a call in the 200 block of Moon Mountain Road. A woman told deputies that Holmes had assaulted her, tried to strangle her, made death threats and was armed with a gun, according to the Sonoma Index-Tribune.
Deputies showed up and the victim was able to leave the house. As deputies tried to talk Holmes out of the house, neighbors called and told police a man was crawling through some brush, the newspaper reported. Later, a passerby said he saw a man hiding in the bushes on Highway 12.
Using a law enforcement’s helicopter, deputies spotted Holmes on Highway 12. Holmes was arrested and taken into custody.
He was being held in the Sonoma County jail on $100,000 bail.
The woman was not hurt. A gun was found in the area.
