Two Napa teens found their Sunday excursion cut short when police stopped the SUV they were driving in Sonoma.

The deputy stopped the boys because the driver looked very young — too young to have a driver’s license, said Sonoma Police Sgt. Clint Shubel. “There were five kids in the car.”
When the officer ran the plates of SUV, he discovered it had been reported stolen out of Napa, Shubel said.

“When we have a stolen vehicle report, the officer waits for backup before stopping the vehicle,” he said.
The officer continued to follow the Toyota Sequoia SUV while waiting for reinforcements. “The kids knew they were being followed. They kept doing circles around the block,” Shubel said.

The SUV was stopped and the 14-year-old driver and  16-year-old passenger were arrested and booked into Sonoma County juvenile hall for alleged vehicle theft and possession of stolen property.
Police contacted the SUV’s owners, who told Napa police earlier that day they saw their SUV coming toward them when they were driving home in another vehicle on a rural country lane.

When police searched the SUV they found several items, such as digital cameras and audio equipment, Shubel said. “The owners of the SUV said it didn’t belong to them, and the kids denied knowing anything about the stuff.”

Shubel said they notified Napa police, who are investigating if the items were taken in burglaries in Napa.

The other three passengers in the SUV, ages 15, 15 and  18, were not arrested.

" Nice. Where were these kids parents? Stealing a car, and looks like stealing digital cameras too? Why weren't the passengers also booked? "

" Ok, there was an 18 year old, a 16 year old and two 15 year olds, but they let the 14 year old drive? "

" To J.A.M.M. "Where were these kids parents?" What? They obviously thought they were doing something else. It's not like this was in the middle of the night when the kids shouldn't have been out. I don't think they told the kids, hey go steal a car and some cameras and have a nice Sunday drive. Kids do a lot of stuff during daytime hours that their parents don't know about. Maybe the parents are to blame, but don't jump to that conclusion. "

" Everyone in the vehicle should be charged with possession of stolen property. "

" Look at the crime map, are these kids from northwest napa, is any of the stolen stuff from north napa? If the police can identify the stolen property they will charge the driver, maybe some of the other kids. They now have five names of potential suspects in dozens of auto burglaries and auto thefts. this story isnt over for these kids! J. A. M. M. Many parents raise kids alone, work 50-60 hrs a week or more to make ends meet and never see the any indication there is a problen till its too late. Many others are addicted to drugs or alcohol and dont have the capacity to care for a child and the kids do all sorts of stuff in an attempt to garner attention. And many times the kids come from great homes with two parent that are doing all a parent can yet the kids still make childish decisions. dont be so quick to judge parents especially when you dont know anything about anything except what you see here "

" Realnewnapa-Ha! I hope you are being sarcastic. I grew up in a CORNFIELD. The nearest theatre was over 45 minutes away. we didn't have cable, internet or video games. That was only 10 years ago too, not the "olden"days. And I knew that stealing something from someone else is WRONG, period. Being bored isn't an excuse. If that was the case I would have held up some banks and stolen many a cars, because all I had to do was watch corn grow! There is no excuse for these kid's actions. They made the bad decisions and hopefully they will pay the consequences. And what is up with the 18 year old not being arrested?? Child endangerment anyone?? "

" To realnewnapa,
So lets go out and commit felonies.

The vets home needs volunteers

The homeless shelter need volunteers

Theres always books to read

So in your mind if kids don't have anything to do than they are proned to do bad things? Why weren't these kids out doing goood thing? Sounds like there bad kids and it wouldn't matter if there were things for them to do in this town. There bored so lets to bad stuff and not good stuff, thats a total cop-out "
