High school girls basketball bragging rights for the western portion of the Sac-Joaquin Section will be on the line tonight when Vanden of Fairfield hosts Napa at 7 p.m.
Prep/College Notes: Justin's Clayton claims all-state football honors
Justin Clayton, a senior defensive lineman for CIF North Coast Section Division IV football champion Justin-Siena High School, was named Second-Team Defense on the MaxPreps.com California Division 3 All-State Team.
Zeller's 22 help boost Napa Valley women in OT
Jessica Zeller scored 22 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead Napa Valley College’s women to a 98-86 double-overtime win over Merritt College Monday night.
Boys JV Basketball: Terra Linda 63, Justin-Siena 57
Gianni Romano had 19 points for the Braves in the Marin County Athletic League defeat. Trey Boles scored 13 points and Dustin Mertens 10.
Boys JV Basketball: Yuba City 78, Napa 21
Timmy Nunn had five points and five rebounds for the Indians. Max Kampton and Alex Jones played hard off the bench.
Boys Frosh Basketball: Yuba City 54, Napa 48
Taylor Martin led all scorers for Napa with 13 points. Joel Garcia and Matt Osivwemu each scored eight points. K.J. Tiffin dropped in seven for the Indians.
Girls Frosh Basketball: Vintage 41, Napa High 29
Host Vintage (6-7 overall) was led Tuesday by Sarah Murdock with 18 points, Kailee Simmons with 10 points, and Danika Schmid with seven points and 11 rebounds.
Boys JV Wrestling: Braves star in Vallejo meet
John Blanchard won at 119 pounds and George Torassa finished second in the 130-pound class for the Braves at the Karen Foley Tournament at St. Patrick/St. Vincent-Vallejo. Chris Triano was second at 119 pounds.
Napa Dart League to organize
The Napa Dart League is a steel tip dart league using a handicap system to even play. Teams are forming now and play out of Billco’s and the Napa Bowl.
Prep umpires are needed
The North Bay Umpires Association (NBUA) is seeking new and veteran baseball and softball umpires for the upcoming high School season in the Napa, Vallejo, Benicia, Fairfield and Vacaville area. St. A’s eighth grade end up second in league tourney
The St. Apollinaris eighth grade boys basketball team won its league in December, finishing with an impressive a 9-0 record.
Varsity Girls Basketball: St. Helena 34, Kelseyville 27
Missy Particelli scored six of her team-high 11 points in the final three minutes to lift the Saints to a victory over Kelseyville.
JV Girls Basketball: Kelseyville 37, St. Helena 26
Sarah Brink and Katie Conover accounted for 22 of the Saints’ 26 points. Brink had 12 points and six rebounds. Conover added 10 points and 10 boards while Shelby Zumwalt tallied seven steals. Logan Santillano came away with five rebounds. St. Helena visits Fort Bragg on Friday.
Varsity Girls Basketball: Justin-Siena 52, Terra Linda 39
Janelle Travis’ 19 points, five rebounds and four assists carried Justin-Siena (9-3 overall, 2-0 Marin County Athletic League) to a win Tuesday night in San Rafael. “Janelle played well. It was another nice overall game for her,” said coach Mike Boles.
Varsity Girls Basketball: Vintage 66, Vallejo 50
Jordan Price had 25 points, nine rebounds and two steals as Vintage won its nonleague game Tuesday night.
JV Girls Basketball: Justin-Siena 48, Terra Linda 25
Teal Geyer (11 points, five steals), Sarah Francke (11 points, five rebounds), Mariah Braddock (six points), Caroline Zaia (six points, four steals, four rebounds), Jenna Joske (five points), and Megan DeValle (five points) led Justin-Siena (11-2 overall, 2-0 Marin County Athletic League) in Tuesday’s game.
