Here comes the annual list of things you resolve to accomplish, the goals, the items that will make you feel better about yourself, the gotta-do's that always seem to slip away.

What are your New Years resolutions?
For many, a chance to be in better shape is a goal, so we are helping by offering Napa's Resolution to Lose Big, starting on Monday, Jan. 12. There will be columns every Monday on overall conditioning, nutrition, health and more with a goal of being in better shape by the end of May.

Rob C wrote on Jan 2, 2009 8:58 AM:

" Well, given the rich history of Israeli innovation, avoiding "anything that originates from Israel" will be challenging.

For example Israeli researchers in have developed, among many other things:

• The Cell Phone was invented by Motorola Israel
Instant messaging on the Internet
• Wireless computer chips for Intel
• Miniature video camera capsules to examine internal organs
• Firewall security software
• Medicines to slow the advance of multiple sclerosis
• Medical MRI Systems

More Israeli patents are registered in the US than from Russia, India, and China combined, despite the enormous population disadvantage (about 7 million in Israel vs. 2.5 billion combined in the other 3).

So Suze, if you talk on a cell phone, ever need an MRI, use instant messaging or wireless computer technology, your "shopping" just got tougher.

But that's not your point, is it? "

" No, Rob C, - my point was the small measure of satisfaction my New Years' resolution will afford me. By the way, you left out the generic drug market - bought up by an Israeli entity; so yup, it will be hard to avoid all these multi billion dollar Israeli industries. It leaves me wondering why Israel is the biggest recipient of U.S. foreign 'Aid?' "
