Trigg helps Storm men roll to win

Aaron Trigg converted a three-point play to cap a 14-3 run that gave Napa Valley College’s men a 75-64 win over Mendocino in Bay Valley Conference basketball action in Ukiah.

College Women's Basketball: Mendocino 56, Napa Valley 46

Erika Hornsby’s 21 points weren’t enough for the Storm as it fell in Friday night’s Bay Valley Conference opener in Ukiah.

Varsity Boys Basketball: Napa 71, Vanden 61

After finishing the Marin Catholic tournament with back-to-back narrow defeats, the Napa High boys (5-8)  beat Vanden of Fairfield (8-5), 71-61, at home Friday night.

JV Boys Basketball: Justin-Siena 49, Novato 46

Dustin Mertens scored 16 point, had seven rebounds and five steals for the victorious Braves. JasonDogherty had seven points and five rebounds. Matt Goetz, Trey Boles and Gianni Romano had six points apieces for Justin (3-6) in the Marin County Athletic League opener.

JV Girls Basketball: Justin 43, Redwood 34

Teal Geyer had 17 points, 14 rebounds and nine steals as Justin improved to 10-2 by rolling in its league opener.

Saints seventh in Alaska play

St. Helena defeated Craig, Alaska, 48-36, on Friday in the seventh-place game of the Clark Cochrane Christmas Classic in Ketchikan, Alaska.

Freshman Girls Basketball: Redwood 40, Justin-Siena 23

The Braves (5-9 overall) lost their Marin County Athletic League opener on the road Saturday. After trailing just 15-13 at halftime, they struggled to keep their focus and intensity, coach Steve Jones said. Sally Taylor had eight points and Ashley Ford added six points and 15 rebounds to lead Justin-Siena, while Lacey Orona chipped in four points and six rebounds, Jordan Tang three points, Covey Haden and Bridget Flynn one point apiece, and Karen Johnson three boards. The Braves host Terra Linda at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Freshman Boys Basketball: Vintage 77, Ygnacio Valley 42

The Crushers’ fourth straight win put them at 9-3. J Nicolos had 14 points followed by Alex Igbal with 13 and Joey Moussa with 11.

Freshman Boys Basketball: Rancho Cotate 53, Napa 38

Napa finished second in the Wine Valley Classic, falling in the title game. Taylor Martin earned all-tournament honors. He scored eight points in the championship game. Matt Osivwemu had seven points and Joel Garcia six.

Lee, Travis propel Braves girls in thriller

Their Monticello Empire League opener looked like a playoff opener for the Justin-Siena and Redwood-Larkspur girls basketball teams Saturday night.
