In addition to the expanded Oxbow Produce Market, two other businesses have rather quietly opened in Oxbow Public Market.

One is DJ's Growing Place, the Big Ranch Road operation that sells a variety of locally cultivated plants, garden art, gardening supplies and gift items. The other is  Napa Valley Adventure Tours, also outside in the farm stands, which offers packages for kayaking, biking and hiking in the Napa Valley.

All’s well in Calistoga
Calistoga is declaring January its first-ever Wellness Month and is offering a variety of activities to start the New Year on a healthy note.

Throughout the month, many spas will feature discounted treatments or specials, as well as a broad range of exercise classes and meditation sessions.
Bike rides and guided hikes will highlight Calistoga’s spectacular scenery while encouraging outdoor fitness and a renewed sense of well-being.

For a list of activities, go to CalistogaVisitors.com, or call 942-6333.

CIA’s green dorm

The Culinary Institute of America at Greystone has begun building a new 31-unit student dormitory that will be one of the greenest buildings in Napa Valley.

The 12,000 square-foot building will be next to an existing 40-unit student dorm on Pratt Avenue.

Water conservation is one of the goals, with low-flow sinks, toilets, showers and recycling.

Solar panels will heat water and generate electrical power.

Schutz family winery

The Schutz family, which operates the Barrel Stop Winery custom-crush facility in south Napa, is seeking permits to build a two-building winery complex that could produce up to 42,000 cases annually at 622 Trancas St. in Napa.

One building would have a barrel room, administrative offices and a tasting facility. The other would contain the winery.

The Schutz family acquired the property from Johnny and Linda Miller, who had sought to put a like-sized winery there called Casa las Trancas.

Maher to lead Clos du Val

Wine industry veteran Dick Maher, a long-time board member of Goelet Wine Estates, has been named interim president and CEO of Clos du Val Winery in the Stags Leap District.

Clos du Val is part of Goelet Wine Estates, which also owns wineries in France and Australia.

Adam Torpy, CEO of Goelet Wine Estates, also named John Moreau vice president of sales and Mary Ann Vangrin is director of public relations.

" What about Kara's Cupcakes coming to Oxbow?! The sign says "Coming Soon" but still no indication as to when... When will they open their doors so we can have their divine creations? "
