Mini-Hoop sign-ups deadline Jan. 7
The Napa Recreation Department’s Mini-Hoop Stars program allows players to learn social skills, teamwork and the game of basketball in a fun and organized environment.
The program runs Saturday mornings, Jan. 10 to Feb. 7, for 50 minutes per week at the Redwood Middle School Gym.
The cost is $50 (fee includes t-shirt). Register online at www.naparec.com or at 1100 West Street.
The registration deadline is Jan 7.

Renegades girls tryouts Jan. 9
There will be tryouts for fifth and sixth grade candidates for the AAU Napa Renegades girls basketball team at the small gym at Napa High on Jan. 9, Jan. 10 and Jan. 12 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
There will be tryout sessions on the same dates for seventh graders and eighth graders from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Newcomers to AAU need to bring their birth certificate. There is a $100 refundable fee to be paid at tryouts.

Tornadoes softball tryouts Jan. 10
The Tornadoes girls fastpitch softball teams will hold their spring-summer tryout on Jan. 10 at Armijo High School, 824 Washington St., Fairfield.
Players 12 and under and 10 and under will tryout from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Players under 14 years of age will tryout from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a tryout for 14-under pitchers and catchers from 10-11 a.m.
Tryouts for players 16 and under will be from 1-3 p.m. Tryouts for players 18 and under will be from 3-5 p.m.

Nor Cal Elite softball tryouts Jan. 11
The schedule for the Nor Cal Elite softball program tryouts are set for Sunday Jan. 11 and Saturday Jan. 17, at Lee Bell Park in Fairfield. Times for various age divisions are as follows:
12-under at 10 a.m., 14-under at 11a.m., 16-under at 12 p.m., and 18-under at 1 p.m.
All players should arrive 30 minutes prior to designated tryout time.

Napa Valley Girls Fastpitch Association sign-ups Jan. 13-14
Sign-ups for the 2009 Napa Valley Girls Fastpitch Association softball season — which plays its games at Napa Kiwanis Park — will be Jan. 13 and 14, 2009 at the Napa High School cafeteria, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
The make-up date will be Jan. 23 at Round Table Pizza on Solano Avenue from 7:30 to 9 p.m.
The Major Division is for girls age 13 through 16 and the Senior Division is for girls age 16 through 18.
Softball experience is not required; all girls are welcome and guaranteed to play.
Fees for the 2009 season are $95 for the first and $75 for the second child in the same family.
Practices start April 1 and games start in the middle of May and run through July 31.

Vintage boosters annual crab feed Jan. 17
The Vintage High Athletic Boosters will hold their 31st annual crab and pasta feed Jan. 17, 2009 starting at 6 p.m. at the Chardonnay Hall, Napa Expo.
Tickets are $50 each and available at Napa Community Bank, the Bank of Napa and the Vintage High School office.
Music will be supplied by the Brian Cline Band.

Youth basketball league starts Jan. 19
The city of Napa’s Community Resources Department is offering a winter youth basketball league, to be held at Redwood Middle School, Harvest Middle School, Napa and Vintage High Schools.
The program is set up so that boys and girls, ages 7 to 12.
Each team consists of 10 players of the same age group to ensure equal playing time for everyone.
Each team practices one hour per week, one day a week, between Monday and Friday, at a school to be announced. Practices will begin the week of Jan. 19 and games will start Jan. 31.
Volunteer coaches are always needed and should sign up early for the greatest selection of practice times.
