Dear editor, In this holiday season, we are here to report that civic engagement and generosity are alive and well in Napa. A group of 16 volunteers from the Napa Obama campaign got together shortly before Christmas to re-connect and keep the momentum from the campaign going. Knowing of the great need, the group decided to sponsor a drive for the Napa Valley Food Bank called the 10-10-10 Program. An e-mail was sent out requesting that each person donate 10 food items or $10 and send the message on to 10 others.

Dear editor, I was in utter disbelief recently, when my purse was stolen right in front of my eyes. A note to those women who carry purses in Napa.

Dear editor, I am writing to respond to the letter written by Melissa Acree to the Napa Register (“Street dog deserves better,” Dec. 27).

These are my favorite books for this year, in no particular order. I have my own particular standards, which include the fact that I hardly read fiction any more so these are all non fiction. Also, they may not have original publishing dates of 2008 but are all recent and I read them myself this year.
