Below is the list of the 369 businesses and individuals owed money by Copia, Napa's wine, food and arts center.

Copia filed Monday for Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization, ending months of speculation as to what would take place with the center on First Street in Napa.
As part of the filing, Copia is required to list all its creditors. At this time, Copia does not need to list the amount of money owed to each group or individual. That requirement is part of additional filings later this month.

At that time, we will add to this list the total amount of money owed to each business or individual listed below.
There is a court date Jan. 9 in Santa Rosa for Copia's creditors. At that time we will be able to give out more details on the exact amounts of money owed to those on this list.

" Sounds like you weren't put on the list Neonapan. Did you have a contract? Is the person who hired you still with Copia? "

" "Copia" Relying on local Napa businesses only 18% of the time!

Outsourcing work out-of-county and out-of state that could have been done within Napa County or surrounding Bay Area 82% of the time.

Further proving my point that the hospitality industry mostly provides minimum wage jobs for the locals, while exporting the large profits to minimal upper management and elsewhere.

Good riddance! "

" this is what happens when you take industries out of napa and turn into a touriest location, as the people who moved to napa with lots of money got voted into offices (mayor etc...). and gave almost nothing back to the community. I guess they had all thier out of town business aquatances, friends and family getting all the high dollar business. Its time for the vinyards to leave and the orchards to return. industries to come home, Napans who could not afford this town to return. Growth must go on but with a labor base not frills. all the new motels and non productive business must start paying for street improvements schools, just like other succesful small towns that grew. our supervisors are the ones to blame they have no problem letting businesses come to town with no resrictions or submissions that improve napa's lifeline. the altamura family ownes alot but also gives alot to the community. most people don't know this and i'm not a big fan of thier business dealings but at least they are a willing to be a viable asset to napa, and that means more than my personal opinion. mcopia was a bad idea from the start and so will be the ritz.(traffic problems low paying jobs, out of town buying not giving local business money) come on city and county supervisors stop worring about your next invitational golf tournament get to work for our towns best interest. "

" Wow, psoren, I agree. What's with all of the out of state contractors? Is this where Napa Pipe will get their help? I couldn't finish the list, it was soooooo long and ridiculous. Let George buy it! Oxbow will be next. Hmm, Steve Carlin ran Oakville Grocery Cafe and what happened? bye bye "

" This is just proof. Not even the people you think have money, have money. Everyone wants CREDIT. I am a local gardener and I have clients that think it is OK to be at best one month behind. I live and pay taxes off of that money. Crazy "

" Nativenapan- bring the orhcards back? That will bring some high paying jobs! The wine industry provides several high paying jobs...accountants, lawyers, designers, salesmen, event coordinators, engineers, webdesigners, human resource managers, docters, dentist...the list goes on. Graduate from high school , go to college and then get a good paying job. If you're expecting to have a "union" job that wil pay you $30 an hour or more without a degree, good luck, not in the near future with the economy the way it is. Blue collar workers are becoming a thing of the past, get an education! There is no excuse not to get one today.

Copia is a sign of the times and it just so happens to be the first big fall that we have seen in Napa. Its happening all over people. "

manxkat wrote on Dec 5, 2008 7:19 AM:

" So Copia is gone? what I wonder is who is going to take down all the Copia signs all over downtown at the top of the light poles? Or, should we ignore them? Maybe our esteemed city council can hire a consultant. "

abouttime wrote on Dec 5, 2008 7:31 AM:

" I word to NATIVNAPAN, we are not going back. The vineyards are here to stay. They only thing that will ever replace them is subdivisions. As for the list, as you know Copia had a large store. Each and every item in the store is generally on credit. They are all listed. This is the main thing that makes the list so long.

Frankly for all of Copia problems, and they were many, they are and will be in better shape the the auto industry, the banking industry or the housing industry. The management of Copia was great compared to GM, Ford and Chrysler.

We are in difficult times. Napa and Copia will get through it in better shape than most.

The sad part is that most of you have no idea what you are talking about when you talk about the Copia Bankruptcy or how this situation came to be. This is still a vital asset to our community and will, in some form, will reemerge stronger and better. Maybe the auto companies need to take heed. Bankruptcy is what they all need to do before they take more public money for more bad management. "

I hope that doesn't stand for California Unemployment department, because that's what they have on their envelopes..CAL EDD

That would be interesting if the State invested with our money.. "

MarkMiwords wrote on Dec 7, 2008 7:05 PM:

" I sure am glad I didn't give these guys a credit account with my business. That would have broken the bank for me and probably would have put me out of business. Firewater: the CAL EDD debt probably means they didn't pay their state umployment taxes. That's a big no-no. It's not wise to mess with the state! "

mominapa wrote on Dec 10, 2008 1:15 PM:

" I've never cared much for the idea of Copia and I am not alone. Many of my friend have never been inside. I have only been on the property once and that was to see a concert in the garden area across the street. What was more fun than going to Copia was watching the fire that cleared the land to build the building. Since then nothing has happened on that property that is of any interest to me. This will change the complexion of that whole area when the hotels are built. No more just leaving your hotel room and walking to whatever concert or event Copia would be hosting. Now they better put in more parking because people will have to leave the area to find something to do and Napa's public transportation system is the pits. "
