A solo crash Monday morning in the Carneros district closed Duhig Road for at least eight hours.

Around 8 a.m., Hugo Higuera, 18, of San Rafael was driving on Duhig Road near Ramal Road, when he took a curve on the roadway at an unsafe speed, California Highway Patrol Officer Jaret Paulson said.

Higuera slammed his Honda Civic into the “only power pole in sight, shearing it off at the bottom,” Paulson said.

Higuera was not hurt.

As of 3 p.m., Monday, Duhig Road was still closed as crews replaced the power pole, Paulson said.

Higuera was cited for not having a valid driver’s license or insurance, Paulson said.

The number of PG&E customers affected by the loss of the power pole was not available, according to a PG&E spokeswoman.
