Land Trust receives donation from Hess

The Hess Collection Winery is donating nearly $3,000 to The Land Trust of Napa County via the environmental charity 1% For the Planet.

Founded in 1976, the Land Trust protects more than 50,000 acres of open space and agricultural lands in Napa County, and provides educational programs about agriculture and the natural environment to more than 2,300 students each year.

 “We are thrilled that The Hess Collection shares our mission to protect Napa’s natural open space and agricultural lands, particularly the spectacular landscapes of Mount Veeder, which we share with them. Their financial support will help us preserve Napa’s world-renowned vineyards and its wild lands for future generations to enjoy just as we do today.” said John Hoffnagle, executive director of the Land Trust.

Tom Selfridge, president of The Hess Collection said, “What better way to honor and preserve our home on Mount Veeder than by taking a leading role in becoming stewards of the land. The Hess Collection has been at the forefront of the sustainability movement here for many years and this step is a natural extension of our commitment. Our winemaker Dave Guffy and the rest of our winemaking team take pride in hand-crafting wines that reflect the uniqueness and quality of the land that supports the vines.”

 Headquartered in Vermont, 1% For the Planet is an organization of nearly 1,000 member companies that donate one percent of their sales to a worldwide network of environmental organizations. It was created in 2001 by Patagonia founder Yvon Chouinard and fly fishing entrepreneur Craig Matthews.
