What are you thankful for
Thanksgiving is around the corner ... what are you thankful for?
Hitting the highway
It has been my pleasure for most of my life to ramble up and down the state of California.
Fact-checking the claims of Save Rural Angwin
Following the lead of news organizations that fact-checked presidential candidate’s claims, here is a review of the facts about the revised Angwin eco-village and the claims made by Save Rural Angwin.
Hillary as Sec. of State? I don't like her
I just don't like Hillary Clinton, I admit. What I don't like about her is the same thing that I don't like about the Wall Street companies that are taking bail out money and giving multi-billion dollar Christmas bonuses to the same guys that threatened to take down the economy, or the average Americans who have 13 credit cards and expect to be bailed out with their own bankruptcies.
Poverty in Napa and The Family Trust
Last night I attended a dinner for a local organization known as The Family Trust. The Family Trust is an informal group of local businessmen started up 17 years ago to help out families in need in Napa. It was organized by Tom Lowenstein, Gary Garaventa, Steve Silva and Jim Asbury, in response to a need from the county Human Services department, to provide quick assistance to those who need it in situations where the time to go through government bureaucracy would not work or simply not be available.
Napa Pipe heating up
The Napa Pipe project is about to hit the headlines again in Napa, and I have been hearing rumblings in the background at big changes that are possible. Meetings have been going on behind closed doors for several months now and one of the strong possibilities emerging is that the city of Napa may take over the project in exchange for taking on the housing requirements of the county.
A path through the valley
Chuck McMinn has had a few good ideas over the years, and these days the Upvalley vintner is pushing an idea that would be great for the Napa Valley: He wants to build a bicycle trail from Napa to Calistoga, offering a recreational opportunity unlike any residents or visitors have today.
Fight for equality continues
Dear editor, To Napa County Voters: Thank you for opposing Proposition 8. On Nov. 4, a majority of Napa County residents agreed with the California Supreme Court by saying “the right to marry is not properly viewed simply as a benefit or privilege that a government may establish or abolish as it sees fit, but rather that the right constitutes a basic civil or human right of all people.” If the election had been up to Napa County voters, there would be no question about the validity or recognition of our marriage license.
A word on the literary arts
Dear editor, Thanks for Gary Silva’s articles on local poets (“Falling into poetry,” Nov. 10). I enjoy learning about the poets and other literary artists in the valley.
Going out for Thanksgiving dinner?
Would you ever eat Thanksgiving dinner at a restaurant? Or is this a holiday that must be celebrated at home?
Holiday shopping
Do you start your holiday shopping early?
