5:10 p.m.A small earthquake just rattled the Napa County area.

The quake, a magnitude 2.8, is reported to be centered 7 miles northeast of American Canyon and 6 miles west of Fairfield, according to the US Geological Survey.
Small earthquakes of this magnitude rarely cause much more than a few rattled nerves.

" It was a quick jolt and I was getting ready to jump under the desk if it built into anything serious. My heart rate went up because I've been in larger quakes before and they can be scary. I just wish we'd get the "big one" over with so we wouldn't keep thinking it was coming every time! :) "

" 2.8? Didn't feel it. I have flatluence that shakes the earth more than a 2.8 "earthquake". "

" It wasn't a very exciting earthquake... which may be a good thing. :) I was sitting at my desk and my arms started moving back and forth with it slightly and the house made some noises.
Oh the excitement of Napa! "

" Funny, I have to agree with Jenn. I was sitting on my couch reading and I felt the shake and said to my husband: Did you feel that? That was an earthquake! I called my brother to tell him and he said I was crazy. Nice to know that the NVR proved me right. "

" In American Canyon here, my son upstairs felt it, we didn't......then my eldest son came out of the bathroom,....... and well you know where the story went from there. :)

They did ask me to check online to see if their was a quake and sure enough we found it. "

Sandra wrote on Nov 24, 2008 8:24 AM:

" I did not feel the earthquake....but maybe it explains the strange dream I had last night. I was shaving my dog, (who already has short hair, so that's a whole other story), and while I was doing it, there was a small earthquake. The dog had a bald spot.
I woke up this morning wondering what that was all about, open the page and see there was an earthquake yesterday. "

" Why can't we ever have something exciting happen? We need "the big one". Heck it would help house prices if a bunch of them fell down. "

" It was a large quick jolt at my house in American Canyon. Often after an earthquake things like the pulls on the ceiling fan will sway, but in this case the jolt was it, no swaying.
My mom in in So. Napa, and she called me right afterward because she felt it also. "
