The theft of the copper wiring and damages done to the Brazos Bridge over the Napa River in the Carneros district last November is the largest loss of this type of theft in Napa County at $250,000.

The city of Napa has also taken some big hits.
• On June 24, 2007, about 200 feet of copper wiring was stolen from the city’s baseball complex at Kennedy Park. It happened shortly after the completion of a softball tournament at the ball park that night. The wire, which was live at the time, was pulled from a 200 foot section of underground conduit that travels along the roadway going to the fields, according to city of Napa Parks Superintendent Dave Perazzo.

The loss was estimated at close to $25,000.
• In May, just after Veteran’s Memorial Park in downtown Napa was reopened to the public, the new bronze handrails along the First Street Bridge and inside the park were stolen. Perazzo said 20 five-foot sections were removed. The handrail cost $50 a linear foot. Perazzo estimated the loss at around $5,000.

The rails have since been replaced and installed more securely to deter potential thieves.
