California Haze softball tryouts Sunday

The California Haze girls fastpitch 16-under softball team will hold tryouts for the 2009 summer season on Nov. 23 at Petaluma High School.
Pitchers and catchers will begin tryouts at 11 a.m. Position players’ tryouts will be from noon to 3 p.m. Players are asked to arrive 15 minutes prior to tryouts.

Men’s basketball league sign-up deadline Nov. 25

The Napa Community Resources Department will be accepting registration for men’s winter league basketball. Cost is $575 per team. Deadline for entries is Nov. 25. The season runs Dec. 8 to March 27.
The 12-game season will be played on Monday through Friday evenings at Redwood Middle School. The postseason playoffs will also be played at the middle school.

Adult volleyball registration under way

The Napa Community Resources Department is holding sign-ups for the winter volleyball league. Cost is $139 per team. The season runs from Dec. 2 to Feb. 5.

All games will be played at Las Flores Community Center. There will be men’s teams, women’s teams and coed squads.

Napa High holds “Forever Path” fundraiser

Napa High School invites residents to purchase a commemorative brick that will be installed alongside the walkway leading to the new track and sports fields.

Purchasing a “Forever Path” custom engraved brick will also Napa alumni or other residents to leave a legacy on campus and help fund track and field equipment and the Napa High School Sports Booster programs.

Little League sign-ups continue Dec. 6

Napa Little League registration will be held Dec. 6 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Garfield Park on Garfield Lane.

Application packets are available online at www.napalittleleague.org or at the registration site on registration dates. New players must provide original birth certificate and two proofs of residency documents. Returning players only need the application packet, unless they’ve moved to a new address.

The program is open to boys and girls six years of age to those who will be 12 years old by April 30, 2009. Cost is $130 for Rookie League (6- to 8-year-olds), $200 for Majors and Minors (8- to 12-year-olds).

Each player is required to purchase $40 in raffle tickets at $1 each that can be sold to recoup $40 from the fee. There is a sibling discount of $20.

Youth basketball clinic Dec. 6

The Napa Community Resources Department will host youth basketball preseason clinics Dec. 6 and Dec. 13 at Redwood Middle School. The clinics are open to boys and girls four to 14 years of age. Registration deadline is Dec. 4. Cost is $32 for players seven to 14 years old and $27 for players four to six years of age.

Vintage boosters annual crab feed Jan. 17

The Vintage High Athletic Boosters will hold their 31st annual crab and pasta feed Jan. 17, 2009 starting at 6 p.m. at the Chardonnay Hall, Napa Expo.

Tickets are $50 each and available at Napa Community Bank, the Bank of Napa and the Vintage High School office.

Music will be supplied by the Brian Cline Band.

Justin-Siena seeks track, baseball coaches

Justin-Siena High School is seeking candidates for the jobs of head track and field coach as well as assistant baseball coach.

Napa Valley Swim Team sets high school program

The Napa Valley Swim Team is accepting members for its high school preparation group. The high school prep group is a three-month program geared toward preparing swimmers of all ability levels for the high school season.

Practices will be held at the Napa Valley College pool from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, with additional optional training opportunities with the year-around program on Fridays and Saturdays.

The prep group costs a flat fee of $320 plus an annual registration fee of $75. There is no additional fundraising required for this group. St. Helena High School grad in weekly TV series

Jeff King, a 1974 St. Helena High School graduate who placed second in this year’s Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race across Alaska in March, is one of the entrants featured in “Toughest Race On Earth: Iditarod,” a series airing at 10 p.m. Tuesday nights on the Discovery Channel.

The one-hour episodes run through Nov. 25.

Each week’s episode repeats during the week.

Napa Saints hold Super Bowl ticket benefit

The Napa Saints youth football program is raffling off two tickets and $2,000 in cash to attend the National Football League Super Bowl in Tampa, Fla., on Feb. 1. Only 1,000 tickets will be sold at $100 apiece. The cost of the tickets is tax deductible.

Napa Junior Lacrosse opens 2009 registration

The Napa Junior Lacrosse Club is accepting registrations for the 2009 season. The club, now in its third year, is expanding to include new levels for both boys and girls programs.

Interested players can go online at www.napalacrosse.com and download the registration form. You can also pick up a form at Replay Sports on Lincoln Avenue.

Napa Valley MAGA accepting members

The Napa Valley Mexican American Golf Association is looking for new members. Men and women age 21 and older are eligible to join MAGA, which plays a tournament schedule monthly in Napa, Solano, Sonoma and Contra Costa counties.

There are also openings for directors on the organization’s board. This is the 39th year of Napa Valley MAGA.
