What are you thankful for
Thanksgiving is around the corner ... what are you thankful for?
A dream denied
I have a dream, a dream that may never come true as long as I hold this job.
City cut down the glories of Alston Park
I think it’s great the way Napa Parks Director Larry Mazzuca ordered the destruction of those historical plum trees up there in Alston Park.
Where was the No on Prop. 8 support BEFORE the election?
In the weeks leading up to election day -- especially in the final four days -- I saw a tremendous amount of Yes on Prop. 8 support building throughout northern California. I was in a number of different cities in the election's final days, and in each city I came across a large curbside gathering of placard-waving Yes on 8 supporters.
From chickens to Chevrolets
There is a good debate to be had about a regulation the Napa County Planning Commission is considering today. Unfortunately, the debate is obscured by a draft law that addresses too many issues at once.
Monez is the man who did it all
Dear editor, What do you write about a man who did it all? What do you say to a man who has done so much for our community? Words are inadequate to summarize the gratitude and admiration for Dan Monez, executive director of Napa Valley TV. Because of his tireless effort 29,100 meals will be served to frail and disabled non-seniors in Napa County.
Calling all Napa pilots
Dear editor, We live near a park and found a radio-powered airplane on our roof. If you lost your plane on or around Nov. 5 and can identify it and where you were flying it, please call 224-7686.
Fermentation blues in Yountville
Dear editor, Have you been living on antihistamines and decongestants, keeping doors and windows closed, with air filtering on high and staying inside lately?
Different things deserve different names
Dear editor, Edmund Holmes’ argument that homosexuality was an accepted part of the Bible shows how little he understands Christianity, the Bible or ancient history (“Reconsidering Bible teachings on same-sex ties,” Nov. 1). His assertion that Jonathan and David could have been homosexual lovers defies all logic (1 Sam. 18:4).
On Proposition 8, let it be
Dear editor, Whatever happened to a government of the people, for the people and by the people?
Bush’s last-minute giveaways
Dear editor, Make no mistake; the Bush administration will pull out all the stops at the last minute in an attempt to satisfy corporate interests. They will surrender our national heritage for profits at the cost of our wild lands, clean air and water and the diversity of plant and wild life that is so critical to healthy, inhabitable ecosystems. Let’s stop them while we still can and hold them accountable for their crimes. We’ve seen enough and it’s served its purpose of getting America to wake up and smell the coffee. We don’t need to let this thing play out anymore. Let justice reign. Impeach Bush and Cheney today.
Closing Guantanamo: A bloody mess
The Bush Administration had a bad habit of not thinking through the consequences of many of its actions, or not caring, and one of them was what is the eventual outcome going to be of torturing prisoners of war? It was inflicted on many of them, many of whom have turned out to be innocent, at least of terrorism.
Is auto bailout a good idea?
I'm sitting here watching the CEO's of the big three auto makers testify to Congress, interviewing for their bail outs. I have to say that they really come off as arrogant, having flown in on their private jets and appearing to have difficulty knowing some of the basic financial numbers of their own companies.
Going out for Thanksgiving dinner?
Would you ever eat Thanksgiving dinner at a restaurant? Or is this a holiday that must be celebrated at home?
Palin: Where does she go from here
The race is over, Barack Obama will be the next president, so now is the time for the next question.
Obama wins, what do you think?
Barack Obama is the your next President of the United States.
