Napa Valley College’s Jackie Ang shot a first-round 84 on Monday to finish in a tie for 18th place at the California Community College Athletic Association Women’s Golf Championships.

Ang is 10 strokes off the pace, trailing Fresno City’s Toyahani Beihn, who fired a 74 to tie Sacramento City’s Kristina Casillas, at the par-72, 5,750-yard Olivas Links Golf Course in Ventura.
Ang was 2-under after five holes. She made a 50-foot birdie putt on the fifth hole.

“She putted very well and she made some good chips,” said Napa coach Jim Wiechers, who has been working with Ang on her short game. “Her long putting was very good.”
Ang, who is well back in the 23-player field, also hit 11 greens in regulation. She’s tied with three players at 84. Only three players finished behind the group at 84. The tournament continues today with the first group teeing off at 8 a.m.

“I would like to see her shoot in the 70s,” said Wiechers.
Palomar leads the team tournament with a 322. Sacramento City is second at 325.

, followed by Santa Barbara at 326. The four teams competing for the state title are separated by 12 strokes going into the final 18 holes.
