" That's a Good spot. Near the AA building with similar types & SImilar Programs and It's not like Wal-Mart attracts high class citizens. I haven't gone there since the grand opening week. " I'm a professional and have a good income. However, due to an illness some years ago I learned how close some of us really are to becoming homeless. I had less than $20 in the bank, had a mortgage to pay and had not worked in nearly a year due to the effects of my medical treatments. Friends told me where I could get a meal once a day at one of the local churches. One day a man came to the door offering to mow my lawn. He'd lost his job in the tech sector due to the economy, had some extra time on his hands, and noticed that my yard needed some attention. He figured I was sick or something and unable to do the work myself. He was right. He took care of my yard, and it turns out he was homeless. He'd been a community volunteer in the Sacramento area where he'd worked and wanted to stay busy while he was looking for another job. I gave him a little bit of money (I already had so little, I figured I wouldn't miss it). He was so kind, and aware that a lot of people judged him, "except for the other people in the shelter."
Due to a series of fortunate circumstances I didn't lose my home, my neighbors helped me keep the lights on, and I was able to return to my job within a couple of months.
I never forgot the kindness of that man who put aside his own despair to help me. His genuine concerns lifted me during a dark, dark time, and he'll never know what a lasting impact just one act of generosity had on my life. "

" my grandmother has worked for the shelter for 20 years i know a lot of the people they are good people they just need some help you dont need to worry about them being in the parking lot late at need they have to be in by 6:30 at night and gone by 8 am and the rest of the day they will be at the hope senter takeing shows and doing what they need to do to go back for the night so you people need to stop with you jugeing and your triping remember one day you could be holeless and need the help "

" The Homeless Winter Shelter on Joran Lane is now offically squashed, not going to happen. City council has decided against it. As you reported there was complaints from the surrounding area. My personal opinion is that Wal Mart
complained. Now its back to square one! The county and all the others envolved are looking for a new location. If all else fails and weather turns bad it still may end up at the Fairgrounds... "
