Instead of putting the winter homeless shelter at Napa Valley Exposition, Napa County has found a light industrial building on Jordan Lane that it says is better suited.
The county will ask the City Council on Tuesday for permission to operate the winter shelter at 1098 Jordan Lane behind Wal-Mart.
This empty industrial building has housed automotive and machining businesses over the years.
Last month, Napa Valley Expo’s board of directors approved leasing a fairgrounds building for a short-term shelter if the county could find no other location.
Jim Featherstone, the county’s assistant director of health and human services, told directors he would continue to look for an alternative location.
A winter shelter at the Expo might have conflicted with rentals of buildings to community groups, fair officials said.
The county is trying to open a shelter this month and run it through spring. The former location at Napa State Hospital is no longer available.

downtown when the shelter was kiddy-korner to the jail/courthouse building? What about all the "river rats" that would hang out by the creek and Mervyn's, now they will have wal-mart to smoke in front of, shoot heroin in the back parking lot, and dont forget the stench of fecies and urine..remember this is NOT the shelter that requires people to be clean and sober. Target here I come!! My weekly trip to wal-mart is almost unbearable now! "

And, mamawana, You are right on! Give these people a break. All you people do is sit on your asses and complain and point the finger at everyone else and you do NOTHING to contribute to solving any problems. All you do is hate...and judge...and complain. "

Due to a series of fortunate circumstances I didn't lose my home, my neighbors helped me keep the lights on, and I was able to return to my job within a couple of months.
I never forgot the kindness of that man who put aside his own despair to help me. His genuine concerns lifted me during a dark, dark time, and he'll never know what a lasting impact just one act of generosity had on my life. "

Just because your homeless does not make you a theft, drug addict or less of a person.
What about Mary and Joseph? They were homeless and asked for help.
Instead of complaining you should look into how you can help and give...Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you all! "

complained. Now its back to square one! The county and all the others envolved are looking for a new location. If all else fails and weather turns bad it still may end up at the Fairgrounds... "
