Fire scare at Napa jail

5:50It looked like the scene of a spectacular fire when four engines and the big ladder fire truck, police officers, sheriff’s deputies and jail correctional officers all raced around the parking lot at the county jail on Coombs Street Tuesday evening.

The call came into police dispatch as a structure fire at the jail. However, when firefighters arrived they did not find any fire, only the strong odor emitted by some electrical wiring smoldering.
“We have not found any fire. The smell is detectable in the basement and strongest on the second floor of the jail,” Napa Fire Battalion Chief Dan Hall said. “We are covering all our bases, checking the electrical panels. But as of right now, it is not a working fire. It most likely is a burned motor.”

None of the inmates were evacuated, though all were locked down in their cells. The jail booking facilities were also temporality closed, barring the intake of any new inmates.

" It sounds about right to me. They lock down the inmates in thier cells when there is a possible fire. No one working in that jail has a clue. If any one took the time to do some research about the jail. Also about all the money that they have in a account that people have left that were arrested. When the Napa Granrd Jury investigated the jail and its bad book keeping, they said there was about $750,000. Money that is hidden from the public. Like every thing else that is done in goverment. Napa is one of the most corrupt, people should stand up and stop this. Most people that are in the napa jail are repeat offenders only because once you have been there the police and the court system work together to make sure you come back. That is there bread and butter. Its a business and many of the poor people that get caught up in loop are getting a bad deal . The judges, da's, probation department and the rest keep people in the loop to keep there jobs. Anyone that would work in that system is no friend to people of any kind. "
