Now, down to business...Democrats need to enter an era of fiscal responsibility. Yes, we need to raise taxes to pay debt off. This is no different than having a credit card debt and having a plan to pay it off. We have spent too much and now we need a plan to pay debt off. it's not right passing dept onto those who will come after us. We cannot enter an era of spending without taxation. But if the burden of taxation is too high, we will damage our economy. We must become fiscally responsible Democrats who do not solve our problems with spending. We must become Democrats who do not view government as a solution to fix all problems. We must create a balance between personal and fiscal responsibility. "

My son walked with a lighter step today when I dropped him off at school this morning. It was so beautiful to us when we saw Obama's family and Biden's Family walk out on the platform together. It is a rare moment when we see families together that looks like ours and I'm telling you, from our point of view, it was a dream come true and we felt elated. "

I can't really say I am upset with the outcome. The election of John McCain would have crippled the Republican Party for years to come. Now that we have got the nonsense out of our system of trying to be MORE like the Democrats, we can concentrate on running Conservative candidates who have a clear and compelling message. The passage of Proposition 8 in an extreme Blue State like California indicates clearly that voters do respond to Conservative ideas.
Unfortunately for the country, I think it is going to be a long 4 years. The Democrats in Congress are already out of control, proposing huge military cuts, ending our 401(k) system, enacting huge tax increases and even more expensive social programs. They can't help themselves, it's who they are. It will be interesting to see if B.O. is any better at limiting the excesses of his Party than President Bush was with the Republicans. I doubt it.
I think by 2012 the country will be quite receptive to a Republican candidate promoting improved national defense and lower taxes... "

You might want to look at the demographics of the republican party. It is predominantly comprised of 55+ years old white men and the religious right. They captured 1% of the black vote down from 3% in the last election and a very low percentage of the other minorities vote.
This is bad for them because by far the fastest growing population in this county is that minority vote that they don't capture and their old white men are dying off.
Go look at some of the republican website forums and you will quickly see the fear there.
I used to vote republican all the time. Back when they were fiscally conservative and were adamant about protecting the constitution. Remember that? Government out of our bedrooms. Separation of church and state?
The problem is because the old white men have been dying off they have had to embrace the religious right. "whack" - that is the sound of our constitution being tossed out of the window to appease those on the religious right. Then many people like me stopped voting for the party because they no longer espoused those core beliefs that many of us hold dear. And their numbers on a national level keep going down.
The reality is it can only be by democrats total bumbling a campaign (look at Gore and Kerry) or by a very strong republican running the perfect campaign can republicans win on a national level.
I really hope this changes. We would be better served as a nation with several strong parties that are competing for our interests. "

Obama is not going to be a miracle worker and he is not going to wave a magic wand and fix our economy, our international reputation, our wars.
But I do believe he will surround himself with others who have the experience and knowledge that will compliment his skillset to start addressing the problems this nation faces. I also believe he will listen to proponents either arguement and try to find a compromise.

Maybe Obama will surprise all of us who are sceptical of his lack of experience. And maybe he wont follow through on his redistribution plans (he is a politician after all! they tend to not follow through on things!)
So, maybe the next 4 years will bring great things. If so, I would have no problem re-electing him next time.

Mominapa, respectfully, you are wrong to lump everyone who did not vote for Obama into the category of racist. Personally, I think it is wonderful that such a large majority of our country voted for a man of color in this position. The matter of racial prejudice has always been a sore spot for me and we can indeed be proud of this election. However, I dod not vote for McCain because Obama was black and I do not appreciate having my vote dismissed simply because my informed opinion did not lead to the same conclusion as yours. This may offend some people, but I group up in LA, with minorities truly struggling with the race issue, and if I were to make a decision totally based on the skin color of the candidates I would not have been able to choose. Because when it comes right down to it, I feel the color of Obama's skin color is only on the surface - he was not raised in a minority environment and does not have the experience in that area that helps me to believe he can fully understand what this group of the population experiences. He may feels closer to the subject because of his heritage, but he cannot truly empathize. So long story short, skin color had absolutely nothing to do with my vote, and I don't believe that America is so shallow that everybody else voted based on skin color either.
I also didn't base my choice on our current president. McCain is not George Bush any more than Obama is the Rev, Wright.
These arguments strike me as ignorant. "

Obama is such a ray of hope after 4 very dark and depressing years in Washington. As far as socialism is concerned, I seriously doubt that claim that has been spewed by Republicans for the last 22 months. Give the guy a chance. He has a good education, a great family and a good attitude for what he sees as the future of America. Would Caribou Barbie have suited you better? I spent time with some former CIS friends a few days before the election. All have a very negative view of Obama after listening to him and living under the decay and corruption of socialism/communism. His "spread the wealth" line was from Karl Marx and struck a distinct cord.
On a side note, foreign investors, especially cash rich Gulf states are fleeing US assets because of Obama, the 10% drop was sovereign wealth funds dumping assets. If this is a REPUBLICAN war as so many proclaim, why did a majority of Democratic senators vote in favor of it? I'm sure it was the Republicans fault. Sure, we were lied to, I don't argue that. But that means the Democratic senators who voted for it were just as gullable as everyone else. No?

There have been many studies, a substantial number of them peer-reviewed, that de-bunk the notion that even a significant minority share of the mainstream media has a liberal bias. So yes, most of the reliable evidence on this issue supports the fact that Mr. Greenwald is, indeed, right.
Frankly, I take offense at your suggestion that the even the "middle-class" are lazy. The vast majority of Americans consider themselves to be among the "middle class" and a heck of a lot of those folks are very hard working. But aside from that, if you took the time to look at the issue any deeper than just that very superficial information source that you have cited here, you would know that Obama's tax plan also benefits those in the lower income brackets. No matter how you slice it, framing it as a plan that takes from the rich to give to the lazy is inflammatory, unfair, and inaccurate. "

Raven, what gives us the right to be in Iraq monitoring the oil is Saddam's failure to obey the terms of the cease fire agreement from 1991 that ended the first Gulf War. President Clinton's administration was getting prepared for an invasion of Iraq in 1998 due to Saddam's failure to comply with the terms from the cease fire agreement. Clinton informed Bush about Iraq during the transition of power and told him it would be a big part of his presidency. Clinton also told him about information regarding Bin Laden and Al Queda. All this stuff was going on before 9/11. It will continue too. Obama is not going to pull all the troops out of Iraq. "

Could it just matter to you enough that such comments are truly, deeply disturbing to many of us, especially to those of us who lived through the 1960s, to get you to refrain from returning to this theme in the way that you have been thus far, please? "

And while there were occasions when Clinton launched a missile or two at Iraq...and invasion in 1998....nope
and btw the way, does it really matter which form people use for 2012...both are correct..check some diplomas sometimes where the date is , well mine for example, in the year one thousand nine hundred and ninety nine.. "

I am soooo tempted to write what I really think but!
Its not printable! Those of you whom are sore losers? Respect your country, respect your Presedent elect and give him a chance to clean up the mess left by the responsible ones.
THen again, there are some of you who will blame every problem prior to Obama taking office on him. I an fortunate to have 1 real friend who was a rabid McCain supporter who had the decency to call me and congratulate me....too bad the majority of right wingers on this blog do NOT have that class. Perhpas they could learn from him. Or, as McCain stated he's slept like a baby since the election...slept, woke up and cried every two hours and slept again! "

I realized that his lack of experience will probably be an asset. An opportunity to break some new ground.
While disagreeing with Obama on many issues I could not question his sincerity. I believe he wants to do the right thing for his country. Now that this man has been elected, I will surely give him my full support and loyalty in his role as leader of the free world and try to be fair in all of my judgements regarding his executive decisions. Especially outside of very formal contexts, language conventions are constantly evolving, influenced by many different factors, “common forms of usage” being among the most dominant. Those that apply here may seem inconsistent to you, but are actually composed of finite sets of “rules” that are applied following a (here’s the key) GENERALLY CONSISTENT AND PREDICTABLE PATTERN.
IN GENERAL: the spoken expression of a calendar year that falls between 1110 and 1999 (as is also true of those from 2110 through 2999) most commonly “splits the number down the middle” (as in “nineteen ninety-six” for 1996 or “twenty-nine ninety-nine for 2999). However, most people would express the calendar years that fall between 1000 and 1099 or 2000 and 2099, using 1008 and 2008 as an example, as “one-“ and “two-thousand eight,” For years that end in double zeroes, like 1100, 1200, 2100, we would apply a different rule still, saying “eleven-,” “twelve-,” or “twenty-one hundred.” Furthermore, most people would apply a different convention to the calendar years up though 999. (They would be most apt to speak the words “eight-hundred and fifiten,” rather than “eight-fifteen” to express the numeric calendar year value of 815.)
That said, especially in less formal contexts, less common forms of usage are not necessarily improper if the most important standard has been met: the message is clear.
Now let it go, would ya’? "

Thank you. "

Just because someone doesn't agree with you doesn't make them stupid. So I don't appreciate your "DUH" comment. Whether we should or shouldn't be in Iraq in the first place, is at this point irrelevant. We're there!! We broke it - we bought it. A majority of senate democrats voted in favor of the war, remember? I know, I know - they were LIED to right? Look, we went to war based on faulty intellegence. But we had the exact same faulty intellegence that the rest of the world had. France, Germany, Russia, England, Australia and even other countries in the Middle East, Isreal, Jordan and Egypt thought Iraq had weapons of mass destruction. The United Nations issued 17 resolutions , imposed sanctions and sent teams of weapons inspectors to Iraq. It seems to me even the U.N. was suspicious of Saddam. Hans Blix and his band of merrymen were led around by the nose being told where they could and couldn't look and who they could and couldn't interview. It's pretty tough to find anything under those conditions and makes it appear that they were hiding something. So if you want to place the blame on somebody for Iraq, lets start with Saddam Hussein. I don't buy into the notion that Bush started this war so he and his cronies could profit from their Halliburton holdings. Bush is not a sinister evil genius. George Bush is Forrest Gump. "

If Obama fails to do that, it is sure to inspire the skepticism of the Justices, who are unaccustomed to being defied. They will have to decide what to do about a president-elect who refuses to prove his natural-born citizenship.
"I can see a unanimous Court (en banc) decertifying the election if Obama refuses to produce his birth certificate," says Raymond S. Kraft, an attorney and writer. "They cannot do otherwise without abandoning all credibility as guardians of the Constitution. Even the most liberal justices, however loathe they may to do this, still consider themselves guardians of the Constitution. The Court is very jealous of its power - even over presidents, even over presidents-elect." "
