Thanks to the generosity of the Napa community, the reward to help police nab whomever is responsible for recently poisoning six dogs, killing four of them, is up to $3,000.

The reward has doubled since it was first offered last Tuesday.
“We have received donations from many concerned citizens and businesses,” said Napa Police Cmdr. Steve Potter.

Potter said a local Napa business, which has asked to remain anonymous, has printed reward fliers that will be distributed throughout the city.
At this time, investigators have no suspects. “But we are aggressively following all our leads,” Potter said.

Last Monday, Napa Police Officer Ryan Cole’s K-9 partner Rex, along with Cole’s two pet German shepherds, Ruby and Lily, got critically ill when they ate snail bait, which was intentionally thrown into the backyard of Cole’s north Napa home, police said.
Lily died. Rex and Ruby were rushed to California Pet Hospital where their stomachs were pumped to rid them of the poison. Both dogs recovered and are back home. Rex has not returned to his K-9 duties, Potter said on Friday afternoon.

On Oct. 29, Sheri Smith came home from work to find her two greyhounds and German shepherd/husky mix dead in the backyard of her Browns Valley home.

The dogs also died after eating snail bait, which Smith said someone tossed into her backyard.

If the person or persons who are responsible for poisoning the dogs are caught and prosecuted, they could face felony charges of cruelty to animals and intentionally injuring a police dog, which carries state prison time and hefty fines.

Donations may be made to the reward fund by calling Potter at 258-7882.

Anyone with information about the poisonings is asked to call Napa police investigations at 257-9566.

" Yeah for Napans! The reward money, especially in times like these, should help to find the killer(s).

The fact that they haven't struck again, and that the first house was a few doors from another K9 and could have been mistaken, sure hints to me that we have a K9 killer on the loose. Anyone who has had a recent run-in with the NPD should be a suspect. "

" Hey, what's the reward for the elderly man who was stabbed at Downtown Joe's? "

" This person or persons is obviousley aware of where people have "German Shepards", since the people attacked had them. I have a German Shepard and will be locking my dog up when I'm not home. There is no way that we as dog owners should live in fear because of some dirt-bag going around killing dogs for no reason. It's not fair and at the same time are dogs can't always be sheltered. I hope this person or persons are caught and given the punishment to the fullest...What a coward to go around killing innocent animals.........
And to the people doing this:
"YOU'RE COWARDS! YOU'LL ALWAYS BE COWARDS....CAN'T PICK ON ANYONE BUT INNOCENT ANIMALS..IF I KNEW WHO YOUR WERE, YOU'D BECOME MY DOG'S CHEW TOY. "

" To the guy who is asking where the reward is for the eldery man who got stabbed at Downtown Joes (not that this incident is terrible)~
Apparently you haven't had the good fortune to bond with a companion animal or you too would be outraged. Can't we be concerned with crimes against animals too? Would a child have to be poisoned for it to validate a reward in your eyes? I'm sending my donation to the reward fund tomorrow. I have a great idea, why don't YOU start a rewaed for the man from Downtown Joes. "

" The reward for the Downtown Joe's crime is attempted murder. It'll carry more than the one year in jail the snail bait criminal will get. Feel better now? "
