The reward posted to help nail the person or persons responsible for recently poisoning six dogs in Napa has grown to $2,500.

Four of the dogs died from eating snail bait that was thrown into the backyards of two Napa residents in two separate incidents. Rex, Napa Police Officer Ryan Cole’s K-9 partner, needed to be hospitalized for a day and night while he was treated for the poisoning, but has recovered, along with Cole’s pet German Shepherd Ruby.
The poisonings happened in Browns Valley and north Napa.

So far, police have no suspects.
Anyone wishing to make donations may mail their checks made out to K-9 Poisoning Reward Fund c/o Napa Police Department, 1539 First St., Napa 94559 or drop them off at the police station.

Information about the reward fund is available by calling Napa Police Cmdr. Steve Potter at 258-7882.
Anyone with information about the dog poisonings is asked to call Napa police at 257-9566 and ask for Detective Walund.

" Someone out there must know something about who did this..Come on folks, innocent dogs have been killed and hurt, ask your teens if they've heard anything, it is surprising what they can find out. If it was your dog, you'd want them apprehended! "

" Just wondering if there was ever a reward to catch the guy who hit the two year old girl and left her lieing in the street? Don't get me wrong, it's wonderful that people want these sick dog killers caught, but are we seriously more concerned for dogs than children and people in general? "

" it makes me sick to think that people in this community actualy would want to cause harm to our animals! dogs are peoples best friends and sometimes actual family members! i hope these people get caught asap! they should have crucial consequences!!! "

" Maybe that family couldn't afford a reward and really how does one issue have to do with the other? These animals have no voice, people need to stand up for them. They are being harmed and killed needlessly and the people responsible need to be caught and brought up on animal abuse or what ever the charge is. I think that starting a reward is a good idea and may help. And I don't think it has anything do with being more concerned about animals then people. I think that some people are very animal oriented and some arn't and if that is where their heart is then so be it. "

" If someone poisoned my dogs I would hunt them down and they would pay dearly. I truly hope they catch this or these heartless individual(s), and soon.

And just wondering, aren't there harsher penalties if you harm or kill a police dog?

And again just wondering, why is there always someone who thinks we value dogs more than a human in these situations?? "

" What is the matter with people? These people really don't have anything better to do with there time than to attack innocent animals? So sad :( "

" ***wing, Cruelty to animals is a known red flag for sociopathic behavior. Stopping this nasty creep may very well stop his victimizing others, be they animals or people.
Additionally, pet ownership benefits humans in lots of ways, including reducing hypertension, stress, and depression.
I think the answer to your question is no, we're not more concerned with dogs than with children. "

" Anybody with information on who did this shouldn't need a monetary reward to come forward. Whatever happened to doing the right thing? If I knew who did this I would throw him or her under the bus immediately whether there was a reward or not. People who harm innocent pets are disgusting. "

" why do you automatically assume its a "teen". I doubt it was a coincidence these incidences involved a police dog. My mother had their family dog poisoned when she was a little girl. They knew who did it based on threats and the angle from which the contents entered their backyard. The neighbor still shares a fence with my grandfather to this day, The police could do nothing then, hopefully animal rights have evolved and not just because the victim was a police dog this time.
