Nailing the exact number of electoral votes Barack Obama received by becoming President-elect brought the online reader with the screen name of Mr. Burns $50 to a Napa restaurant.

The contest was listed on our Web site for about 24 hours, giving readers the chance to guess the total number of electoral votes (364) the new President would receive, and as a tiebreaker, list the percent of votes (65.2) the new President would receive in Napa County as of the last election day count here.
Thanks to everyone who played along.

" fifty bucks? That's almost enough for a few glasses of wine and a salad at one of our fine, overpriced dining establishments. "

" I'll take a free $50 gift certificate any day. Are you going to take Smithers this time, Mr. Burns? "

" Congratulations Mr. Burns! I'd suggest saving it for when Obama takes it back in taxes; if not, ensure you report it on your tax form, just in case... "

Mr. Burns wrote on Nov 7, 2008 10:46 AM:

" Thanks for the advice AKNRA, but like most other Americans I'm more worried about the meltdown of the global economy than whether or not Obama's going to raise my taxes a few hundred dollars. "

AKNRA wrote on Nov 7, 2008 11:49 AM:

" You are most welcome Mr. Burns, and glad to be if help; in continuing to "give-back," you really should seriously stop and devote a few moments to how your local situation WILL be when your taxes ARE raised a few hundred dollars, then ANOTHER few hundred dollars, until you are no longer a citizen, but a subjected surf. Yea, Obama is coming, and he be expensive, as is party always is. "

" aknra- and the recent administration wasn't expensive? So funny when people point the finger a the dems for being the party that raises taxes. SO, what is the republican party? THis last administration was the most fiscally unresponsible one in the history of the US. A few hundred to a few thousand dollars, if this is what we need to do to get our country out of the state of disaster that it is on, bring it on. We are talking global problems...not just my personal bank account.
Obama and his staff will act responsibly unlike the current administration. "

AKNRA wrote on Nov 8, 2008 9:31 AM:

" noblindershere, Obama is the future. He as stated that he will be raising taxes, as ALL democrats do when they come to power. The current moderate Republican administration went back on their conservative base principals and became just like democrats, with the HELP of democrat votes. Yes, it is expensive to kill terrorists, and it will be even more expensive on our numerous taxes once B.O. gets his hands on the treasury; mark my words. "

db76 wrote on Nov 9, 2008 8:10 AM:

" aknra: you're making things up. Obama has never said he will raising taxes, unless of course, you belong to the wealthy upper-class. And Bush is not considered by anyone to be moderate. He is a partisan. "

AKNRA wrote on Nov 9, 2008 1:23 PM:

" db76, we shall see. We shall see. History proves that incoming democrats DO raise taxes. Bush was indeed a moderate - he and his country club Republicans In Name Only is what lost the election for them. The democrat party is renoun for taking the votes of the dependent welfare class, who expect to be rewarded with the hard earned tax dollars of those who DO work. Again, it's historical fact. "

Mr. Burns wrote on Nov 9, 2008 3:32 PM:

" Less partisan bickering and more accolades to my awesome feat, please! "

" Can you find in writing where Obama said he will be raising taxes? I would like to read about it (besides here). "
