Napa Valley Colleges Theater for Young Audiences has had to add performances to their already sold-out upcoming run of “African Tales of Earth and Sky,” which they are performing for school children this month.
Two public performances are Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Napa Valley College Theater. Tickets are $10 for adults; $8 for students and $5 for children 12 and under.
Mmoatia-the Fairy-Men-Never-See is trapped and tricked by villagers into telling “Why Lion Roars,” “Why Lightning and Thunder Live in the Sky” and “Why Mosquitoes Buzz in Human’s Ears” in this production, which critics have called “breathtaking, charming and inventive, a lightning-fast show won’t bore children” and “a magical mix of vibrant costumes, pulsating rhythms and mythological stories, captures our humanity and dreams.”
While appearing as Nora in NVC’s recent production of “A Doll’s House” and directing a special reading of “The Laramie Project,” the college’s Jennifer King was directing the rehearsals of “Tales.”
“There is nothing better than watching children engage their imaginations through stories brought to life on stage right before their very eyes,” King said. “We have a commitment at Napa Valley College to nurturing the theater performer and patron of tomorrow by offering affordable plays for audiences of all ages.”
In the spring, Napa Valley College will continue its commitment to young audiences by offering “Seussical, the Musical.”
All seating is reserved for “African Tales of Earth and Sky,” and reservations are recommended. Tickets will also be available at the door. To make a reservation and purchase tickets in advance, call the NVC Theater Box Office, 259-8077, 1-4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Due to construction on the Napa Valley College campus, allow extra time to get to the theater and find parking. Parking is free.
The Napa Valley College Little Theater is at 2277 Napa-Vallejo Highway, Bldg 1200.
