Nimbus Arts support brings HD equipment, stellar arts series to Cameo Cinema
A partnership of Nimbus Arts and the Cameo Cinema in St. Helena will bring opera and ballet performances to the big screen.
Nimbus Arts has funded the Cameo’s acquisition of a state-of-the-art HD digital cinema 3D projection and sound system, a requirement to be able to present this special series by the Royal Opera House, and it will sponsor the initial five-month run of performances.
“We are indebted to Nimbus Arts for supporting this effort,” said Shawn LaRue, co-owner of the Cameo Cinema. “They have been incredibly generous, both in terms of providing the necessary equipment and the underwriting of the series. The Cameo Cinema is one of only 24 single-screen, independent theaters in the country with the ability to show these Royal Opera House performances, along with our other incredible and varied programming. We absolutely could not be doing this without this amazing support from Nimbus Arts.”
Beginning Tuesday, Nov. 11, with the acclaimed Royal Opera’s stunning performance of Bizet’s “Carmen,” the Cameo Cinema will showcase three Royal Ballet and two Royal Opera performances through March 2009. After the premiere of “Carmen” at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, an encore performance will be shown at 11 a.m. on Nov. 22.
December’s offering will be the Royal Ballet performance of Tchaikovsky’s “The Sleeping Beauty” on Dec. 9 and 13. Mozart’s “Figaro” by the Royal Opera will be presented on Jan. 6 and 17. Prokofiev’s “Romeo and Juliet” by the Royal Ballet (a Valentine’s Day treat!) is scheduled for Feb. 10 and 14, and John Lanchberry’s “The Tales of Beatrix Potter” by the Royal Ballet will be shown March 10 and 14.
Because of the support of Nimbus Arts, tickets are $10 for both the premiere and encore performances at the Cameo. A complete series subscription is also available by contacting the Cameo Cinema.
The Royal Opera House is the home of three world-class performing companies, the Royal Ballet, the Royal Opera and the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House.
In addition to this Royal Opera House Series, Nimbus Arts has also partnered with Cameo Cinema to present a Wednesday night Art Film Series with classics like “Citizen Kane,” “My Fair Lady” and “Psycho,” as well as a Saturday matinee series showing great family flicks like “The Wizard of Oz” and “The Lion King.”
