Ignoring the big issues

Dear editor, I was very impressed by the letter to the editor from Alexis Woodruff, a student who could teach us all a thing or two: be informed, research before making a decision (“We can’t afford to be uninformed,” Oct. 29).

The very nature of this election surely has given us cause to consider “sources” among not only our students but also to the voters in this great nation who are just as confused as Alexis. The impact on many of us as we quest information confirms that most of us can’t figure out what is happening to our nation. From what I have read in the newspapers and watched on TV, there is something going on in America that does not reflect the long-standing Bill of Rights guaranteed by the Constitution and something is missing from the longstanding informational process in this country.
I hope that Alexis Woodruff is able to understand that perhaps neither candidate for president of the United States is qualified to lead this great nation. Has she been able to perceive the emotional backlash voters are aiming at each other? It would be well for all of us to research the similarities between the two candidates rather than the differences, such as the issues neither discusses in their speeches: First and foremost the disregard for the Constitution of the United States of America. Destroy that, destroy the nation.

Yet who in our government is respecting the very foundation of this country? Very few! Secondly, both candidates support NAFTA, the North American Union, SPP, open borders and place at risk that which is so important to each citizen of our country: our sovereignty! Perhaps the very mistake our newspaper and TV commentators have made is to avoid the truth about how at risk our precious liberties really are in the here and now. Debates have been the backbone of our freedom. Why are the candidates not even mentioning such important subjects while they argue over — what is it anyway that they argue over? I have already forgotten!

" There were many concerns the Founders expressed during the formation of our Republic, arguably the greatest concern was an uninformed voter electing unscrupulous representatives…. "

" Again it comes back to the media not doing their job in providing the necessary information on both candidates... "

" Raven: The constitution specifically protects freedom of the press. If the press lies there are courses that may be legally followed. Suing for libel or slander is an example.
Rush Limbaugh and Fox are not the press. They are entertainers and comedians.
Real concern over understanding the Constitution should be aimed at Sarah Palin who doesn't understand the role of a vice president. Hopefully we are getting rid of an 8 year term of Constitution stomping. Who's listening to your phone calls??? Who has suspended habeas corpus? Who is holding prisoners without due process? Who is ignoring the Geneva Conventions and torturing prisoners of war? Who swore to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America? Who's the biggest liar in the U.S.with his hand on the bible??? Who supported him 90% of the time? Who has torn our Constitution to shreds the last 8 years? He who will not be named and his puppetmasters. "

" acluwanza, you conveniently leave out the part about the Democrats in Congress supporting those measures. Especially in the last two years when they controlled Congress, and they still voted to support wiretapping, etc. Which is a good thing. The Constitution provides for exceptions in times of war. (Oh that's right, you Libs don't think we are at war, you think Cheney blew up the WTC...)

You want issues? I want someone to ask B.O. what he was talking about when he said this:

""We cannot continue to rely on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives we've set. We've got to have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded."

Is he going to arm ACORN now?? "

" Raven: The press reporting has nothing to do with the constitution, other than Freedom of Speech. What is currently happening in the press is a capitalistic purging of media sources and well over due. Care to invest in NY Times bonds? or how about investing in CBS? I am sure that the LA Times will soon be reaping what they have sewn as well, since they have decided to hold the tape of Obama supporting the radical Palestinian Rashid Khalidi. "
