Principles to vote by
By DENNIS MOORE
I want to thank the Napa Valley Register for its endorsement of John McCain for president of the United States of America. It took a great deal of thought and courage to make this endorsement, especially given the tone and irrational logic expressed in recent letters. It was without question the correct endorsement.
It is interesting that those who are quick to blame President Bush for all the current problems never mention names like Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, etc. All of these individuals have been in leadership positions for the last two years and most certainly share responsibility and blame for the current situation.
There are a lot of issues at stake in this election other than the current economic conditions. Issues such as national security, abortion, marriage concerns, tax increases, health care, etc.
A health care program similar to the one proposed by Obama recently failed in Hawaii after only nine months of existence.
President Clinton promised not to raise taxes and after he was elected we got the largest tax increase in history. We can expect the same if Obama is elected.
I am deeply concerned about Obama’s past activities, college years, questionable associations, etc. Obama says he wants to be president and make change, yet when he had an opportunity to make change and reform in the corrupt Chicago (Cook County) political machine, he sided with corruption. It has been said that there has never been an honest politician that has come out of the Chicago political machine.
Why is Obama so reluctant to open up and come clean about these concerns? What is he hiding?
All supporters of Obama should vote for John McCain because if Obama is elected, who are you going to blame for all your problems?
I would encourage you to accept the Napa Valley Register’s endorsement of John McCain.
Meanwhile, I was extremely disappointed in the Register’s decision to endorse a no vote on Proposition 8.
A no vote on Proposition 8 is a reflection of what is wrong with the United States and its leadership, especially in Congress. We are a nation that is abandoning the Judeo-Christian principles and values that the country was founded on. We are in the process, as a country, of adopting the religion of human secularism. Fifty years ago Proposition 8 would not have been needed.
The pattern for marriage was established at the creation. Male and female were created as recorded in Genesis 1:27. Yes, we are created and are not some product of chance. In Genesis 2:24, God instituted marriage. The pattern for marriage is that it is to be monogamous, heterosexual and a complete union between a male and a female. No ifs, ands or buts. This pattern for marriage between a male and a female was confirmed by Jesus in Mark 10:7-9. Jesus also said that the marriage between a male and a female is to be permanent.
This definition of marriage has been the accepted definition of marriage for thousands of years, and is only recently under attack by society.
This election is a moral crossroad for the United States. Either your vote and decisions will be based on biblical principles and values or it will be based on your feelings apart from biblical principles and values.
I fear that the United States and its people have come to the point of Judges 21:25, “In those days there was no king in Israel, everyone did what was right in his own eyes.” Today it would be, “In these days there is no God in the United States and everyone does what is right in his own eyes.”
This election is very critical. The decisions that you make and the decisions made by those elected will affect this country for many years to come.
Think before you vote!
What will you base your vote on, biblical principles and values or “if it feels good, do it”?
Vote yes on Proposition 8.
