Political correctness scores

The last two or so weeks have been absolutely insane. Progress reports just came out and it’s looking good so far, all that hard work pays off…trust me.

Politics and polenta

Last week I wrote a little about the Register editorial board, noting that participating in board meetings is one of the highlights of my role at the newspaper.

Obama singing a siren song

What is sure to be one of the most important presidential elections in our lifetime is fast approaching. It is very disturbing that many voters are not seeking answers or truth, but rather are just taking the easy popular road to save face with their friends and acquaintances. There are many appealing nuances about Barack Obama, but they are superficial and equate to the little pig’s straw house. He just doesn’t have the experience, integrity or ability to unite both the left and right for the good of the country.

Preserving the institution of marriage

With the upcoming elections, 12 propositions have been laid before us Californians for our approval or rejection. One of these, Proposition 8, seems to have drawn more attention due to the impact it will have upon our state. I read a letter to the editor from Michael Dearborn regarding the proposition (“Proposition 8 discriminates,” Oct. 6). In his letter, Michael states that “the California Supreme Court has correctly ruled that discriminating against gays in matters of marriage is unconstitutional. Such discrimination stands in opposition to the core values of fairness, equality, dignity and freedom. The purpose of Proposition 8 is to change the law so that a large portion of our community is excluded from the fairness, dignity and freedom most of us enjoy.”

Top 10 reasons conservatives should vote for Obama

Andrew Sullivan has written this piece (click here to read the full item) and he makes a lot of really good points. Read the whole thing. The two I agree with most:

The intolerance of the American voter

Why do I dislike so many political partisans? Let me count the ways.

Obama’s Social Security surprise

Dear editor,

Shallow reasoning in McCain endorsement

Dear editor,

Fairness and facts matter

Dear editor,

The politics of race and division

Dear editor,

Treasures arrive at Community Projects

Dear editor,

Caldwell the one for District 5

Dear editor,

Misstatements on Ayers and ACORN

Dear editor,

Mohler for Yountville council

Dear editor,

Mean motive for Proposition 8

Dear editor,

Yes on 8, because it’s right

Dear editor,

Don’t discriminate, vote no on 8

Dear editor,

Caldwell to truly represent south county

Dear editor,

Joe the Plumber

The real reason this story has resonance is due to the fact that Obama used the phrase "spread the wealth around.” In doing so, he portrayed a view of economics that conservatives are roundly against,  wealth redistribution to make things "fairer.”

One more vote for Obama

Recently I was looking at all the comments after an article on Obama’s tax plan, and noting how over the top the Republican commenters were about Obama. I thought of writing something sarcastic, like "Obama is going to use his Marxist social engineering policies to support domestic terrorism through an oppressive tax code on teeny tiny business owners while promoting both Muslim terrorism and black liberation theology, thereby installing Bill Ayers as the Secretary of Defense yada yada yada...."

Cheap things for kids in Napa?

I would like to know where the best parks are in Napa, best cheap things to do with kids in Napa too!

Help with family dinners

My topic is family dinners. I could use some more ideas for quick, healthy, and inexpensive dinners.

Good Mom moments

My fourth grade son has an animal report due on Wednesday. I helped him to set a schedule so that all he has to do tonight is to put the pictures he printed on the pages and he is done. No 10 pm on Tuesday and we are still at it! Sometimes being a parent is great.

Bad Mom moments

My 23 month old son is hitting the terrible twos a tad early. Everything is “NO” and “MINE” right now. When I won’t let him do what he wants to do (like pull out all of the DVDs), mostly I say “not for babies” and pull him away (he doesn’t like it, but oh well). Well sometimes, I feel my blood pressure rising and say “NO” myself (not exactly good modeling) and come on too strong; he cries and sometimes I cry.  Sometimes being a parent makes me crazy.

Write your job description for president

We are in the process of electing a new President of the United States. Those active in the political process have their opinions on John McCain and Barack Obama, but what about taking a bit of a different spin this time around.
