8:30 p.m.An elderly man was stabbed Tuesday in an incident on a sidewalk in front of a downtown restaurant, police said Tuesday. The injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.

The call for help arrived at 6:45 p.m.
The victim, whose name has not been released, was sitting on a chair inside Downtown Joe’s on Main Street when paramedics arrived, according to the Napa Fire Department.

“He was conscious, breathing, talking to us,” Napa Fire Capt. Ron Vick said Tuesday.
The victim was transported to Queen of the Valley Medical Center, Vick said.

There are no suspects, Napa Police Sgt. John Kostelac said.
Details and motive leading up to the stabbing were not available by press time.

Downtown Joe’s manager referred all questions to the Napa Police Department. The restaurant remained opened for business.

" okaaay 109823.....where in the article does it say 'gang'?? just because he was stabbed (which hopefully he's ok now) doesn't mean it was gang related...yea, this town is disgusting......
judging before even knowing the facts. i'm not saying napa is all that, but please..... know the true facts before saying something. "

" Just awful news. What has become of Napa? The crimes being committed are despicable! Not even safe to walk the streets now. Gang or otherwise, something has to give! What a ghetto! I am so glad I moved away. I read the Napa news daily and it's nothing but bad news. I feel sorry for the friends and family I left behind. "

" OMG!People getting stabbed downtown(an elderly man no less!) at 6 in the evening? Guess that settles if I go downtown ever again! I do feel safer in SF than I do in Napa. "

" The person could have been a homeless person trying to get money off the old man, could even be a jealous female, there are all kinds of possibilities but we don't know for sure. Automatically assuming it's gang related doesn't surprise me with all that's been going on in this town lately, but it's not the only possibility.
I hope he's ok and fully recovers.
This town is getting bad, we have the elderly being physically assaulted now? Makes me think twice about inviting my grandparents to visit me. "

" So I wrote a comment about how another stabbing at DTJ's was shocking, but it was censored. Considering there have been at least two stabbings there within the last 18 months, I think I have a valid point about DTJ's being an unsafe place. But maybe that bar has connections at the NVR, and it would be too much bad publicity if people thought it was a bad place. "

" I tend to agree with mamawana. I moved away due to the military but I still read the Napa Valley Register (it was just the Napa Register) when I was growing up in Napa. I remember the last time I came home I had to go get a map of Napa because there were so many changes. Some change is good but a lot of it is bad. We had a lovely little town where I could ride my bicycle all over town and my mother didn't worry about where I was. Now I would be afraid to let my children ride their bikes in the neighborhood I grew up in. That is so sad. I know nothing stays the same but some of the things that are going on in Napa should not be happening. We never had any gang problems or crimes against the elderly. It really makes me wonder what this world is coming to. "

" I am so sorry that this man endured a violent attack. Out of curiosity due to comments comparing Napa's crime rate to San Francisco, I checked statistics for both cities...Napa's violent crime rate about 32% BELOW than the national average and property crime is about 25% BELOW the national average. San Francisco's violent crime rate is about 24% ABOVE the national average (nearly 50% above Napa's) and SF's property crime rate is about 12% ABOVE the national average (37% above Napa's). I think that we need to do all we can to contain crime here but making comparison's to other cities like SF and Richmond are pretty exaggerated. "

" It is interesting that a random event on the sidwalk is attributed to a specific business. After reviewing the video tapes it is clear that the perputrater was simply walking down the street and attacked a random person.

Perhaps we should address our drug and gang problems instead of attacking business that are here to make =ur lives better in the valley. "

" well tora tora,........uh....yea, i believe the question mark is BEHIND the '"more gang initiations?'......seems like someone else needs to read more closely. Who knows whether it was gang or not.....the point is it's happening and it's not getting better.....regardless of who's doing these things. Napa is getting pretty bad....... "

" db76, downtown joes has some sort over cover at a higher level. Ever notice whenever any other bar starts getting popular the cops or landlord seem to figure out a way to shut it down? Saketini's, lamplighter, and im sure many others have suffered the same fate.

Ever noticed that downtown joes has NEVER had their liquor lisence suspended or been fined for ABC violations, while the other "popular bars" seem to get caught all the time?

Every town has a downtown joes, its the bar everyone hates, but everyone goes there because everyone else keeps going there.

There is definitley some sort of favoritism going on here. "

" Is it just coincidence that Napa is experiencing renewed gang violence, violent crimes and vandalism? Could the increase in low income apartments correlate to the increase in the aforementioned crime? Does anyone at city hall or the police dept. care? Does anyone think that the reputation of the City of Napa is at stake? Do you think tourism and downtown can survive the continued media attention of violent crime in Napa? Lots of questions with no apparent answers from our leaders. "

Bust the taggers, thugs, riff-raff, the drunks, If it worked well there, it should work for Napa, "kenya diggit?" "

" I Have a comment for those of you who are accusing Downtown Joe's of being a bad place. Several of you continue to call it a bar. It stoped being a bar long ago because of kids not being able to control themselves. Joe has worked harder than most in this community to create a successful restaurant. You are just angry because there is no where to go in Napa and we quit putting up with bad behavior and changed the venue so our customers actually spend money and can feel safe. We never said it was gang related and the man who was stabbed is a friend of ours and is okay. Maybe you all should open your own place for kids in their twentys to hang out and see what kind of hard work this business is. To those of you who have supported us I thank you. To those of you who continue to slander our name it is just not right. If you feel the need to speak with Joe or I to get the true stroy of our business feel free to call anytime. It really isn't right to slam people you don't know.
