Dear editor,

It is with true gratitude that I applaud the Napa Valley Register in supporting the ticket of Senator John McCain and Governor Sarah Palin. With such a left-wing media run for Obama, it’s refreshing to see a newspaper with the guts and courage to stand up for American values. I canceled my subscription to your newspaper but as a result of your public endorsement I will subscribe once again and encourage others to do the same.
God bless America!

" Don, On this point I hope you are wrong. I don't believe that the NVR made this endordement to be "gutsy". I don't always agree with their position, but I feel that they truly take the time to investigate and research before they make an opinion. What I think the NVR did in endorsing John McCain, is that they sifted through all the bull and got down to the real issues. Who has the true leadership qualities and who has the most experience. When you truly look at the differences, there is only one choice, John McCain. "

" "Sift"? They needed to use a shovel. Maybe a backhoe...

Bottom line; the mortgage and resulting banking crisis can be laid right in lap of the Democrats who caused it. (Granted, McCain seems to have difficulty articulating that position in that he feels it would make him look "partisan").

The Dem's are already planning on gutting the military (25% if Barney Frank gets his way), definitely something we don't want to do in these dangerous times! Add to that Biden's "guarantee" that we are soon going to be in a 'crisis' due to B.O. inexperience and it gets even worse.

The Dem's are actually planning on eliminating the 401(k) tax deferral and imposing a new 5% mandatory "retirement" tax. They drove SS bankrupt and now they want to do it all over again!

B.O. has a laundry list of new taxes he want's to impose. Of course, even he is now admitting that new taxes hurt the economy and he may have to "wait" to act on them. (When do tax increases ever HELP the economy?)

I'm with you, Rocketman, it really didn't take to much "guts" for the NVR to pick McCain compared to what little B.O. has to offer... "

" What's so gutsy about maintaining the status quo? "More of the same" doesn't denote courage. In fact, repeating the same thing and expecting a different result is often defined as insanity. "

" I've found it funny reading these letters praising the NVR endorsement of McCain. "Gutsy", "courageous" are their favorite words to use. It was neither. It was a few people (or one person if we choose to believe some people) who were giving their opinion. Sure, it was unexpected, but that doesn't make it gutsy or courageous. "

" especially interesting to read them and compare them to statements about the NVR just a few days prior to the endorsement "

" I don't understand people who decide whether or not to subscribe to a newspaper based on a political endorsement. I could care less who the NVR or any other rag endorses. People who get worked up over what a newspaper endorses most likely are incapable of thinking for themselves. A good newspaper reports the news without political bias. The opinion page is of no consequence to me. The daily typos in the NVR speak volumes to me about the quality of the paper. The NVR could endorse Bozo the Clown for all I care.

As long as the NVR makes grammatical errors at an alarming rate, I am forced to take everything published with a grain of salt. The day that the paper is published better than a Middle School yearbook will be the day I start to take any opinion or political endorsement seriously. "

" Gutsy? I just think NVR researched both Obama and McCain fully and decided that, based on their findings, that McCain was the better candidate. "

" You have to understand southnapa, the NVR has a very liberal bias (not just on the editorial page, but the news stories they publish and the way they are presented). Very few of my conservative friends even subscribe anymore.

If the endorsement was a surprise to us, I can only imagine how shocked the Liberals were! "

" I would wager it is more like the publisher saying.....yeah, it's my paper and we are endorsing McCain.... "

I cancelled my subscription to this newspaper. "
