Caldwell represents, doesn’t delegate

Dear editor,

I’m writing this letter in support of Keith Caldwell for Supervisor of District Five.
Both candidates have demonstrated success and competence serving our community in their previous positions in law enforcement and fire protection. But the roles and responsibilities of a supervisor are very different and require skills far beyond those required to manage people and budgets.

Not everyone realizes that board members participate in a wide variety of assignments, such as the Flood Control Board, LAFCO, NCTPA, airport land use, water districts, etc. Each requires not only a level of competence on the respective issues such as land use, water and waste water, transportation and airport preservation, but an ability to communicate ideas, direction and suggestions, while forging partnerships and negotiating solutions.
While both men have appropriate backgrounds to run for BOS, Keith Caldwell is the only District Five candidate who has demonstrated the skills mentioned above. By his own admission, Gary Simpson is not a strong communicator nor demonstrates passion or enthusiasm. His previous success was based on delegation and then “getting out of the way.”

We need a supervisor who gets involved, takes time to educate himself on the issues, researches possible solutions and communicates well. This is not a job to delegate to others. We need Keith Caldwell to represent all of us in Napa County.

" Eve Kahn is another special interest person trying to change the balance on the board of supervisors. With the economy in the tank we need a supervisor with 20 years of county budget experience. That is Simpson. Caldwell has no experince with any county matters including the budget. He is the first supervisor candidate we have had that is invloved in a scandal involving misappropriation of public funds and the unique situation where his friends and campaign committee, sitting as the city council, are in a position to cover up a report which will make Calwell's particpation in this scandal even more evident. Is this what we have come to in Napa county politics? That we would even consider such a candidate? Simpson is honest and provides the experince we will need to deal with our situation for the next 4 years. Please vote for Simpson. "

" Did he educate himself about campaign and IRS regulations governing political signs on non profit property? It is the same as placing political signs in front of a church. Is this idicative of how prepared he is for public trust? C'mon, Mr. Caldwell, face the music. "

" Eve, I doubt you even know Gary, but nice try. Yes, Cadwell does delegate - he tells all his employees to get fake degrees so they can get an undeserved pay increase from the public coffers! No thanks, I take honesty and integrity above all else. And have you sat down and spoke with Simpson? He is very versed on the issues, he is just not slick like Caldwell, telling each group what he thinks they want to hear. And since Supervisors have to work so well with others, why doesn't Caldwell have the endorsement of not even one of the current Supervisors? Because NO ONE trusts him! There is no other choice - Simpson for Supervisor! "

" One of the most revealing things to me in these letters is to see who is supporting whom. Because once you see the same old hacks like this supporting certain sides you realize that it is all payback for some political debt.
I already voted against Mr. Caldwell because of the intense polarization he has caused in this community. He has more people expressing hate toward him than any candidate I have ever seen. "
