Signs of the political times

Dear editor, I found my Obama sign stolen from my yard and my neighbor’s Obama sign torn and thrown into a bush on my yard. In a walk of my Old Town neighborhood it seemed that other Obama signs were missing, as well. I object to this act of anti-Americanism and anti-free speech. In response I will find more signs and contribute more money to the Obama campaign, in the hope that we elect him as our next president and return our country back to honor, prosperity and leadership.

" Some loser stole mine as well. Guess what jerk, it's not going to change the outcome. "

" My guess is that it's other Obama supporters stealing these signs to provide yet another excuse blame conservatives and to whine about how unfair everything is. "

" You have to understand the mentality of these McCain supporters. It actually will cause you to smile because their days are numbered. They will spin themselves into tight little knots until they implode on themselves. "

" Sorry misfit-

It is not like conservatives to steal Obama signs. Paddy's point is probably closer to the truth.

Besides all you are really going to do with it is put it in your fireplace on a spare-the-air day anyway.

Oh, sorry, thats right we can no longer heat our homes unless we pay the utilities.... "

" misfit - that's just weirdness. You have no idea who stole those signs, and it could have been a deranged McCain supporter or it could have been a deranged Obama community organizer trying to stir things up. Unless you have some factual evidence to share with us, making silly accusations is, well, silly. Stealing election signs is a bipartisan act of stupidity. But then I think putting signs out in the first place is silly - I would never change my vote based on how many signs I saw.

Which brings up my last point - this letter was completely unnecessary. Who cares? Signs are stolen in every election. Some of mine were stolen when I ran for office. So what? It's part of the cost of doing business. Get over it. "

" I find Kathy's "complaint" hard to believe is true. My opinion is that she is just "whinnying" looking for some sympathy and opening the path at the same time for other anti-conservatives to come out and say "Me too, me too, me too!"
Knock it off!

The signs in my neighborhood are still there, all of them, for McCain/Palin and BO (no that many with Biden, surprisingly).

A nice turn I noticed, there's a house on Browns Valley Rd (maybe is First) that used to have a "Hillary" one and now it has a McCain/Palin one...I'm happy! "

" Yes, ask Obama to take care of you and protect you and give you money and - then you are hooked, but then again, it sounds like you already need a handout. "

Big deal.... "

" Thats what these losers don't understand. Everytime they trash or steal sign they are donating to the campaign they oppose. When my car magnet was stolen I bought two more and when my sign was trashed I bought another one. "

" I't supposed to be against the law to take signs, however in previous elections the Napa PD said they "didn't have the resources" to deal with the issue". I would like to hear from them and find out what their policy is today. They would only have to arrest a couple of people and publicize it. As long as these miscreants know nothing is going to happen to them they will continue... "

" Well, I'm guessing my comment was censored, probably because I complained about the right-wing posters calling people liars for saying their signs were stolen. Or maybe because I specifically mentioned posters who continue to post their inaccurate, incendiary and mean-spirited comments, which in my mind reflect more about themselves than about those for whom the comments are intended. Or maybe it'll show up, and I'll have to eat crow.
Anyway, if anyone's counting, I had 3 Obama signs stolen, and 2 Kerry signs stolen 4 years ago. However, after I put a note out, the one who stole my Kerry sign twice returned it with a note apologizing for trying to interfere with my right to free speech. I appreciated his/her ability to negotiate and be fair. I certainly don't see that spirit in this election.
So, no direct attacks coming from me, only a cry in the dark -- "Why are liberals so hated for being so Christlike?" (And I say that not about me, because I'm not a Christian and don't pretend to be Christlike. I say that about others I have known, like my parents, good friends, leaders, whom I respect as I think I would have respected Christ for his principles and his compassion. It is clearly, in this day and age, considered "unamerican" to adopt and perpetuate those values. Only the values of intolerance and hatred seem to serve America's current purposes. And some wonder why others might find America imperfect and having a potential for improvement. "

kevin wrote on Oct 19, 2008 10:58 AM:

" Liberals "Crist like"?

Hardly.

If there is any hate out there, it is from the Liberal side. They are the ones who write and promote books and movies about killing President Bush, who compare him to Hitler, who constantly spew disgusting and vile personal comments about him and his family... "

" Kevin -- Can you say Ann Coulter? Rush Limbaugh? Michael Savage? Bill O'Reilly? I could go on, but your note kind of illustrates my point. "

Paddy wrote on Oct 20, 2008 10:41 AM:

" The signs are being stolen by fellow liberals too poor to buy their own. They're manipulating the process as best they can.

The stolen signs are a metaphor of what they're doing to the election as a whole in order to usher in a new -ism, commocialsm, that will redistribute wealth and allow the illegal underbelly of society to gain a legal foothold in society and destroy the efforts of generations of Americans.

That's what happening to your precious signs. "
