Political correctness scores
The last two or so weeks have been absolutely insane. Progress reports just came out and it’s looking good so far, all that hard work pays off…trust me.
Blazy days
Last week, it felt as though the California fire season for 2008 was well in the rear-view mirror.
Bailout: Putting out fire with gasoline
The $700 billion bailout was passed off on the American people as a necessity to save our economy, and as Rep. Mike Thompson put it: “Voting yes was the only responsible option.”
Fire all our elected officials
With the collapse of prime lenders, investment institutions and the infusion of at least $1.8 trillion into a small segment of our economic infrastructure, I will be firing all of my elected officials this November. This will include state officials, as well.
Bad bailout requires vote for Starkewolf
Republican Rep. Ron Paul of Texas warned about America’s looming financial crisis while he was in the spotlight of the presidential debates, as the mainstream media was marginalizing Paul’s platform of government adherence to the Constitution. Now, many of the media’s economic analysts are recognizing that Paul was correct in his monetary analysis and predictions of a financial disaster.
Presidential debate and recession
Not sure I can add much to what is already on the site or out there, other than my view. McCain seems constantly angry and unpresidential. Regardless of his policies I don't see how he can win like that. Unfortunately I think we are seeing the real McCain, many from Arizona predicted he would be a bad campaigner, now I know what they mean.
The intolerance of the American voter
Why do I dislike so many political partisans? Let me count the ways.
Evans for Assembly
Assemblywoman Noreen Evans is seeking her third and final term of office in the California state Assembly.
Some people never learn
Dear editor, So, the Napa Register endorses John McCain. Not surprising since they previously endorsed George W. Bush. Some people never learn.
NVC's inspiring 'Laramie Project'
Dear editor, One of the most inspiring events I have attended at Napa Valley College was the staging of “The Laramie Project” six years ago. It made me particularly proud to work at a community college that illustrates, in the many of the events we hold for the public, our commitment to the ideal that an educational institution should take a leading role in repudiating hate crimes in our society.
McCain and the bully within
Dear editor, I watched the second presidential debate and what may have gone unnoticed really rang out to me loud and clear. Sen. McCain referred to Sen. Obama as “that one.” To me this was an egregious lack of respect for an elected official of the United States, a lack of common sensibility and an appearance of ignorance of common decency.
Signs of the political times
Dear editor, I found my Obama sign stolen from my yard and my neighbor’s Obama sign torn and thrown into a bush on my yard. In a walk of my Old Town neighborhood it seemed that other Obama signs were missing, as well. I object to this act of anti-Americanism and anti-free speech. In response I will find more signs and contribute more money to the Obama campaign, in the hope that we elect him as our next president and return our country back to honor, prosperity and leadership.
Proposition 1A primes the economic pump
Dear editor, I was genuinely disappointed to read the expression of your short-sighted opposition to Proposition 1A, the California High Speed Rail Project bond measure on the Nov. 4 statewide ballot.
A humane vote on Proposition 2
Dear editor, Proposition 2 on the November ballot will indeed make life better for millions of farm animals in California. The improvements this measure asks for could not be more moderate. It will simply give egg-laying hens, pregnant sows and veal calves enough room to stand up, turn around, lie comfortably and extend their limbs. That’s it.
Thanks for five great years
Dear editor, In response to your article dated Oct. 1, I would like to publicly thank all of the volunteers and staff of the Napa Valley Conference and Visitors Bureau. This group of 84 displayed random acts of kindness when they offered to help the guests through this abrupt transition. The volunteers have really become cohesive, all working together for a common cause. The organization always ensured that the people who visited the Visitor Center were treated as guests using a great deal of kindness to share the story of Napa Valley.
Let's vote no on Proposition 8
Dear editor, Proponents of Proposition 8 on the coming ballot want to prohibit same-sex unions from adopting children. They argue that a two-parent, man-woman family is necessary for the healthy development of children.
Bad endorsement for progressive community
Dear editor, What a disappointment to see the Register endorsing McCain. Over the last years Napa has been increasingly progressive in every good sense of the word. As we have prospered as a region, the community has moved forward with downtown business on the upswing, diverse cultural events coming to our venues, and local charities the beneficiaries of sustaining support. We would hope the community newspaper would reflect our optimism and aspirations by supporting the forward-looking Obama.
Register out of step
Dear editor, I was surprised to see the Register’s endorsement of John McCain. Rather than rebut your perceived strengths of McCain, I’d like to understand why a community newspaper is so out of step with the majority of the community it represents.
McCain endorsement missed the mark
Dear editor, The fact that the Democrats are in the majority should not affect whether or not a newspaper endorses a candidate of a particular party. However, endorsing Mr. McCain in these circumstances is very disappointing. His candidacy is erratic to say the least, and his choice of vice president reflects very poorly on his judgment and decision-making capabilities. What Mr. McCain has “proven” is that he is not the person to lead us out of this morass, but rather is someone who is committed to more of the same.
Endorsement rekindles hope in newspapers
Dear editor, My hope has been rekindled that there may yet be hope for the American newspapers.
Vote for McCain is a vote for ruin
Dear editor, Not only do I disagree with your endorsement of John McCain for president, but I disagree with every reason you gave for endorsing him. McCain’s experience shows us why he is not suited to be president.
Register, McCain show bad judgment
Dear editor, I was very disappointed in your editorial endorsing John McCain for president.
A substandard endorsement
Dear editor, Your endorsement of John McCain for president is stunning and consistent. You endorsed George Bush (the lesser) in 2000 and 2004. At least you are consistent in supporting substandard candidates with lots of “jet-jock” ego. Well, you can vote for “experience,” but I think I’ll go for good judgment any time.
McCain not fit to lead nation
Dear editor, I am disappointed to read of your support for John McCain for president. Putting everything else aside, the war, the economy, health care, etc., this is a man who chooses an extremist to be his running mate. A man who sat by while she called a United States Senator a terrorist, who finally after several days asked his supporters to stop the name-calling and seeds of hate at his rallies, and let’s not forget his famous bad temper on the floor of the Senate!
Out of step with the public
Dear editor, It was with utter disbelief that I read your editorial endorsing John McCain. I keep hearing this “experience” argument for McCain but what is happening now is far more relevant to how McCain would serve in office.
VP choice shows McCain is not ready
Dear editor, The Napa Register’s endorsement of John McCain for president cannot go unchallenged.
A well-reasoned endorsement
Dear editor, Your editorial endorsing Sen. McCain contains very well-reasoned justifications for your position. Thank you for stating in very clear and non-political terms how the decision was reached. I believe your logic is correct and I appreciate that you rose above a lot of the local rhetoric. Thank you.
Halloween Costumes
It never fails that right after the first month of school ends, the hot topic becomes Halloween. How do your kids get ready for Halloween? Do you mom's make costumes? Or do you buy something ready made? Which is better, and why?
Homework
Every afternoon, starting at about 3:30, I feel like I am the one going back to school. One child needs help with an algebra problem. Another has social studies questions to answer. A high school student has a paper that needs proofing. How do you mom's find the time to help your kids with homework? How much time do your kids — and you -- spend on homework each night? Who helps your kids with their homework?
Do you support Evans or Gentry for State Assembly?
Who is your choice for U.S. House; Thompson, Starkewolf or Wolman?
Is it Luce or Martin for County Supervisor, Dist. 2?
Should it be Fire Chief Caldwell or Sheriff Simpson for Dist. 5 County Supervisor?
Who is your choice for parks and open space district, ward 3?
Who should be mayor in American Canyon, Garcia or Curry?
Who should serve on American Canyon's City Council? (pick two)
Who are your Calistoga City Council choices?
Who should be St. Helena's next mayor?
Who are your Yountville Town Council choices?
Who do you support for President in the November election?
Who should be Calistoga's next mayor?
Who is your choice for Napa City Council?
Who are your Calistoga school board choices?
Who is your choice for Napa school board, Area 4?
Who are your choices for St. Helena City Council?
Obama's VP, what do you think?
Barack Obama chose Delaware Sen. Joe Biden as his running mate ... what do you think of the choice?
McCain's VP, what do you think?

Write your job description for president
We are in the process of electing a new President of the United States. Those active in the political process have their opinions on John McCain and Barack Obama, but what about taking a bit of a different spin this time around.
