Those traveling through the east side of Napa might have noticed the large construction project underway at Tulocay Cemetery.

Built on a vacant parcel of about 20 acres, the land has belonged to the Tulocay Cemetery Association since 1859. The project will become the new funeral home for the non-profit cemetery, which is about to celebrate its 150th anniversary.
Address: 411 Coombsville Road, Napa, Ca.

Total square feet: 14,000
Owner: Tulocay Cemetery Association

Construction began: September 2007
Planned completion: May 2009

Civil Engineer: James L. Cassayre, Napa

Structural Engineer: Hunt & Joiner, Inc., Dallas, Texas

Architect: J. Stuart Todd, Inc., Dallas, Texas

Contractor: Bruce Tucker Construction, Napa

Project manager or Developer: Brian Cassayre, Napa

What’s happening: “The roof is now going on and it should be completed before the rains starts so they can continue working throughout the winter,” wrote Cemetery Manager and Funeral Director Peter Manasse.

Design comments: The building is modeled after the original cemetery office, first built in 1909. It will include cemetery offices, funeral home offices, a complete funeral home, a 150-seat chapel and large reception center. In addition the new facility will offer a small flower and gift shop.

Project estimate: $7 million
