Indians sweep singles to rip Crushers, 8-1

Napa High’s girls rolled to a lopsided 8-1 win over Vintage on Monday in Monticello Empire League tennis play.

The win improves the Indians to 11-1 in the MEL.
Napa swept the singles matches, led by No. 1 Katrina Castner who beat Lauren Welty 6-0 before Welty retired due to injury. Meghan Dudley beat Dorothy Hyntt 6-4, 6-3. Tay Langfitt stayed unbeaten with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Katie Laborde. Gloria Riechers pounded Erika Hernandez 6-0, 6-0. Alana Freifeld also stayed undefeated with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Gabriella Forster. Allison Stradiotto tripped Rebecca Bruna, 6-2, 6-0.

In doubles play, Vintage’s Julie McNamara and Stephanie Martinez rallied to beat Lauren Hubbard and Caitlin Newton, 4-6, 7-6, 10-7. Erin Gulbransen and Allison Welty beat Megan Zoller and Allison Honey 5-7, 6-4, 10-8. Nicole Jensen and Deborah Creiglow beat Jordan Maggard and Bonnie Brazil 6-2, 6-3.
Napa plays Armijo of Fairfield for the MEL lead on Wednesday.

Girls Water Polo
Justin-Siena loses

The Justin-Siena girls competed in the Napa Girls Tournament, hosted by Napa High School and lost their opener to top seed Deer Valley-Antioch 17-1. Sarah Risso had the lone goal. Taylor Kreuzberger chipped in with six saves.

Justin-Siena lost to Reno of Reno, Nev., 14-8. Risso scored five goals, Teal Geyer had two, and Kelsey Minigan had one. Kruezberger had nine saves.

The Braves lost to Oak Ridge-El Dorado Hills, 14-7. Geyer had four goals. Risso scored two. Freshman Laura Gold contributed one goal. Kruezberger had 11 saves.

Justin-Siena 2

In Friday’s Marin County Athletic League game, Alberto Aguayo scored a goal, which was assisted by Eduardo Gutierrez. Scott Lieb scored a goal, assisted by an Eric Gutierrez corner kick.

Midfielder Ivan Colin played well in the center.

Marin Catholic won the junior varsity game, 1-0.

JV Girls Water Polo

Napa JV sparkles

Napa High’s junior varsity took second place in Napa High School’s tournament.

The Indians won two qualifying games defeating St. Francis (8-2) and Sonoma Valley (9-3).

For the three games Nicole Kampton had nine steals and 12 goals. Alysa Howell-Moxie had three goals. Karli Mast had two goals.  Megan Jessell had two tallies. Holly Cloud scored one goal.  Defensively Emma Williams had a strong game and goalie Ashley Amey had 12 saves.

“Considering we started the season with many new players, we have come together and elevated our skill level well beyond where I hoped to be at this time,” Napa coach Bea Ramey said.

Napa 40, Rocklin 6

Adrian Perez scored two touchdowns for Napa. Zack Schienholz scored two touchdowns and had a two-point conversion. Michael Stewart and Tyler Burgess each scored a touchdown. Alex Ceja had a two-point conversion.

Napa got interceptions from Tyler Moffett, Michael Richmond and Schienholz.

The Indians’ defensive line was led by Robert Horton, Brady Lopez, Dillon Padilla, Antonio Vallerga and Dan Kelham.

Youth Volleyball

St. John’s advances

St. John’s Catholic’s sixth grade girls beat St. Eugene’s 25-12, 25-22 in the first round of the Catholic School League tournament in Healdsburg. St. John’s will play St. Francis tonight.

Correction

St. Helena High School’s Andrew Thompson led the Saints with 13 tackles in a 27-7 win at Willits on Friday night. He was misidentified in Saturday’s paper. To report errors, call 256-2222.
