6:30 p.m.A Napa man suffered major injuries Tuesday in a crash on the Silverado Trail south of the Oakville Cross Road, according to the California Highway Patrol

At around 4 p.m., a man southbound on the Silverado Trail lost control of his car, which hit a ditch and rolled over, California Highway Patrol Officer Jaret Paulson said. The crash occurred in front of Vine Cliff Winery on the 7400 block of the Silverado Trail.
Roberto Cobarruvias, 24, was transported by CHP helicopter to Queen of the Valley Medical Center, Paulson said. The driver was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

Silverado Trail was shut down for about 30 minutes to allow the CHP helicopter to land and leave.
The incident remains under investigation.

" We were backed up about thirty cars from the accident at around 4:20 or so. We saw the helicopter take off. The vehicle was on the Eastern side of Silverado partially upside down. I think it was a beige van. I couldn't see any other vehicles that might have been involved. It looked as though the vehicle collided with a boulder off to the side. I'm curious to hear about how the driver is doing. The accident appeared serious. Please keep us informed. "

" It's scary to know that there are many more dangerous drivers out there like the guy who crashed today. Someday cars will be very safe. They will be operated by computer. There will hardly ever be accidents. Too bad we don't have that kind of technology available to the mainstream public yet. "

" unicorn, please write back and keep us updated. Anyone who drove past that accident is thinking about the injured victim tonight. We want to know that he's ok. Thank you. "

" Roberto is my cousin's son, as of yesterday, he was ok thanks god . I letf the hospital after the surgery the doctors told us he was doing ok. He is in intensive care right know but doing well. Thank you for your prayers.
And for you Joe Roberto is not a dangerous driver as you said, if you were not driving with him how do you know the way he was driving. I hope in the future you will think twice before judging any body. "

" The county has failed to install adequate safety features on Silverado Trail. Rumble strips are proven to stop accidents like this and only cost $40,000 per mile. The rumble strips on Jameson Canyon Road have proven this. But, Mr. Dodd wants to spend $250,000 to $500,000 of our local funds for studies on Hwy 29, a state highway, while he continues to ignore county roads. "

Yes, and make my already traffic-filled commute that takes half an hour to get 15 miles take an hour. No thank you! "

" Lower the speed limit AND have speed gauges along the trail and higher enforcement. The speed limit is way to high for the type of road Silverado Trail is. There are way too many accidents on this road. "

" The problem ISN'T the speed limit.

The problem, in many cases, is that today's drivers aren't good enough ( I have NO idea if that was the case yesterday, and I wish the young man a healthy and speedy recovery ).

The cars are so good that many drivers have no idea how close to out of control they are until they are out of control. This is partially because there is no real driver training anymore. I personally believe that ALL new drivers should take a driving course somewhere where they are required to lose control of a car and attempt to gather it back up. I also think all drivers should have to ride a motorcycle for a week.

If that seems unreasonable, I suppose we just don't want better drivers on the roads anymore. "

percussionqueen7 wrote on Oct 15, 2008 12:35 PM:

" NUHS67, I already leave early... a 15 mile commute should take around 20 minutes, and I'm already spending up to a half an hour in traffic on the way home. Lower the speed limit and the commuters will be up in arms, myself included! Heaven forbid we do something that serves the LOCALS as opposed to the tourists for once! "

" And there are those who want to build 300more houses in Angwin, which equates to about 600 more drivers on the Trail and Hwy. 29 each day (2 cars per family). Be vocal and say "NO" to rural suburb development! "

" To Reader: You have finally stated what no one else has realized. Silverado Trail has had many people killed in accidents just like this because it is an unsafe road. I would like to see the traffic safety report in the EIR for the Angwin development. I bet they totally ignore Silverado Trail.

Meanwhile the county ignores doing anything to make it more safe. "

" I drive the trail everyday and many mornings while its very early have set the cruise control on 60 and driven from Napa to St.Helena! This is not a dangerous road! just a average road filled with dangerous drivers! I wish drivers would understand how important it is to be totally focused on driving, not texting, cell phone calls, and all the other distractions! Yes! including pets! I was almost killed by a woman in Deerpark who rides around constantly with a big poodle on her lap! Whenever She makes a left She cant see well because of the dog! So Drivers remember! these tips for driving this vallley, following distance? 1 car length for every 10 miles per hour! Signal 100 feet before your turn! Drive the speed limit! Not 40 in a 55 with 14 cars behind you! Pull-over and let us by! Stop at red lights! Go at green lights! Also please have insurance! "
