ROCKLIN — Just when its opponent got its quick-strike Pistol offense finally firing Friday night, the Napa High football team unloaded its own arsenal.

Rocklin came out in the second half of its Homecoming game, after a long halftime that featured an impressive fireworks show, and promptly tied the nonleague contest behind sophomore quarterback James Laughrea.
But Napa responded with Max Alvarez’s 25-yard field goal and three fourth-quarter touchdowns by three different players to pull away for a 40-23 rout.

Charles Boyett (13 carries, 99 yards) scampered 38 yards to set up his own 1-yard TD keeper for a 26-16 lead. After the Napa defense forced the Thunder’s seventh short punt of the night, Clinton Gorsuch timed a 22-yard scoring pass to Brandon Washington to make it 33-16.
Laughrea (17-for-32 for 181), who had tied the score 16-all midway through the third quarter by hitting all six of his passes during a drive that ended with a 7-yard TD pass, got the Thunder to within 33-23 with 4:56 left with a 33-yard TD strike to 6-foot-6 Holden Huff.

But Logan Hess (22 carries, 141) capped another Napa scoring drive with a 50-yard TD burst set up by his own 37-yard scamper.
