5 locals top Week 5 Pro Football Pool winners

Napa County dominated the rankings, as four Napa residents and one from American Canyon took the top five spots in Week No. 5 of the Can You Beat Randy pro football pool at NapaValleyRegister.com

Brian Bassham’s 11 wins held off 7 others with 11 wins, thanks to his best guess at the tiebreaker. His guess of Pittsburgh 24, Jacksonville 20 was closer than any of the other 7 in the tiebreaker, so Bassham of Napa, aka scottyb, is this week’s winner.

The tiebreaker sorted out the rest of the top 5, with second going to Brendon Freeman of Napa (bfreeman), followed by Laura Newby of American Cayon (lwhy41) in third, Lisa Manley of Napa (lilbetsy1) in fourth and Jayson Forte of Napa (Chunk) in fifth.

There is a new leader in the overall standings, as gooddoc13 from Nevada, with 52 wins, has moved a game up on a pack of three, including buddababy6 from Ohio, edlank5 from North Carolina and California’s own Maglon. A group of nine others are tied for fifth place overall.

Oh yeah, about Randy, the namesake of this year’s contest … Register.com Sports Editor Randy Johnson made his move in Week No.5, hitting for 10-of-13, just a game back from the pack of leaders. For the season, though, his 39 wins has him in 249th place out of the 344 playing in the local game, and  84,499th out of 126,762 in the national standings.
