SHINGLETOWN - Wallace Chapman Horrell “Wally” passed away Monday, Oct. 6, 2008, in Shingletown.

Wally was born at Park Victory Hospital in Napa on June 16, 1941. He was the proud son of Mervin and Dorothy Horrell. He attended Napa schools, graduating from Napa High with the class of 1960. Always living his life around heavy equipment and following in his father’s footsteps, he went on to become an operating engineer retiring from Local 3 in 2001 as an honorary member. One of Wally’s proudest achievements was being able to say that he worked for Slinson Construction for over 40 years. In 1963 he married Rosemary Hanks. They were married for 28 years and produced two beautiful children: a daughter, Terra and a son, John.

After enjoying nine years of bachelorhood, fishing and traveling, he reconnected with a woman he had known his entire life. Joan Arruda-Lovie was born on Wally’s fifth birthday. With both of their parents being good friends, Wally was introduced to Joan at her birth. Wally and Joan married in Napa in 2001, with both of their families present. Wally and Joan have spent the last seven and a half years living in Shingletown at the foot of Mt. Lassen amidst the tall timbers. After retirement he was able to do the things he liked best — fishing, traveling with Joan in their fifth-wheel trailer and socializing and working in his big shop, where he was always entertaining his buddies and sharing a Scootie. Wally knew no strangers.

Wally is survived by his loving wife, Joan; daughter Terra Croxdale; son John Horrell (Kathy); sister and best friend, Merlene Cook and husband Ron; grandchildren Jack Croxdale, Troy Croxdale, Ashli Horrell Tyler Horrell; step-daughter Jena Knoblock; niece and nephew Heidi Mitchell (Jason) and Zack Cook (fiancée Jamie Johnson); and great-niece and nephews Miranda and Drake Holman, and Hunter Mitchell, all of Napa. Wally is also survived by Joan’s family: Rick Lovie (Julie) Jon Lovie (Jennie) and Julie Lovie, as well as Joan’s grandchildren, making a total of 11 wonderful grandchildren who loved their Pappa Wally dearly.

Wally’s mother, Dorothy Horrell Wojcik, has been ill for the past year. Dorothy joined Wally in heaven the day following Wally’s death. Now Mom, Dad and Wally are together again.

His continuously smiling face, loving and caring way will be missed by his family and many many friends.

A celebration of Wally’s life will be held Sunday, Oct. 12, at 11 a.m., at the Claffey and Rota Funeral Home, 1975 Main St., Napa.
