NAPA - Harold W. Bump Jr., a longtime resident of Napa, passed away early Thursday morning, Oct. 2, 2008, at the age of 55.

Harold highly valued education and was eternally grateful for the outstanding education he received at Kings Valley Elementary School in Kings Valley, Ore.; Philomath Junior-Senior High School in Philomath, Ore.; and Oregon State University in Corvallis, Ore. He earned his BSME from Oregon State in 1976. Harold was in the USAFR for six years. He was grateful for the work ethic instilled in him by his parents, Frances and Wilson Bump, while living on a small business farm. This pride in work and passion for excellence provided him strength to stand alone and make the right choices throughout his entire life.
Harold was eternally grateful to have met Joanne M. Heiberg and to have married her on Aug. 23, 1975. Joanne is his living angel and provided him with 33 years of happiness and love. Joanne also blessed him with his second angel, their daughter Christine P. Bump, 30, who married Elias P. Papasavvas, on March 8, 2008, at Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Washington, D.C. Harold was eternally grateful for the love of Joanne, Christine and Elias. He is survived by Joanne, of Napa; Christine and Elias, of Washington, D.C.; and his sister, Eileen Bump Maxfield, of Philomath, Ore.

He was eternally grateful to the following physicians and their staff: Stuart Bursten, M.D.; Thomas T. Paukert, M.D.; Maria Samsonov, M.D.; Daniel P. Mirda, M.D.; Paul J. Dugan, M.D.; Ari Umutyan, M.D.; John P. Loftus, M.D.; Lawrence J. Goldstein, M.D.; Wendell W. Wenneker, M.D.; A. Vaziri, M.D.; Lorelei J. Repique, M.D.; and J. Kirkwood Reid, M.D. Harold also had eternal gratitude for Jo Gilbert, Ph.D.; Jill Hemingway, FNP; The Rev. Jim Warnock, B.C.C.; the staff of the Queen of the Valley Medical Center; and Hospice of Napa Valley.
Harold wanted to thank the city and county of Napa for being the perfect place to raise his daughter.

A visitation will be held Sunday evening, Oct. 5, from 5-8 p.m., at Claffey and Rota Funeral Home, 1975 Main St., Napa. A graveside service will be held Saturday, Oct. 11, at Rock Creek Cemetery in Washington, D.C., where Harold will be laid to rest.
