NOTES AND QUOTES for a Saturday in the Napa Valley:
Anna Cmaylo, a redshirt senior for Santa Clara University, earned her second weekly honor of the season as she was named as one of Collegiate Volleyball Update’s Top Performers of the Week.
Cmaylo, who went to Vintage High School, has registered over 100 kills thus far for the Broncos, who are ranked No. 23 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association/CBS College Sports Top 25 Coaches Poll.
She averages 3.0 kills per set, 1.1 blocks per set and has nine service aces going into West Coast Conference play.
Cmaylo also ranks nationally in two departments — 56th overall for hitting percentage and 72nd in blocks per set.
She is No. 2 all-time for hitting percentage and No. 3 on the all-time block assists list for Santa Clara.

Craig Harrison starts at left tackle for No. 22 Central Missouri State University, an NCAA Division II school which takes a 4-1 record into today’s game against Emporia State.
Harrison, who is from Napa, received the team’s “Union” award for his outstanding offensive line play against Washburn in Week 4.
He was named as an All-Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Second Team selection as a tackle last year.
Harrison was a starter for two years at Solano Community College and is a 2005 Napa High graduate. He was recognized for his talent on the offensive side of the ball, earning All-Monticello Empire League, All-Napa County, All-Metro by The Sacramento Bee, and receiving Napa’s offensive lineman award as a senior.
At Solano, he was chosen as the Bay Valley Conference’s Offensive Lineman of the Year and First-Team All-State.

He’s at home, recovering from knee surgery, but Terry Simpkins will be calling in and hosting the “KVON Sportsvine.”
Today’s guest is Vintage High head football coach Billy Smith, who will be joined by co-hosts Charles Kennedy, Mark McLeod and Steve Meyer.
The hour-long show starts at 9 a.m. on KVON 1440 AM.

Kyle Cash, a high jumper who placed seventh at the CIF State Track and Field Championships for Justin-Siena in June, thanked Frank Defilippis in a note he recently sent to the founder and former coach of the Napa Track Club.
“You gave me the greatest start in high jumping and I will always be thankful for your never-ending support,” Cash wrote. “You are the best!”
Cash, who is attending Baylor University in Waco, Texas on a track scholarship, won the North Coast Section Meet of Champions at UC Berkeley’s Edwards Stadium. He has a personal record of 6-10 in the event, which he attained in a Marin County Athletic League dual meet against Marin Catholic-Kentfield in April.

Emily Talley carded the University of Colorado’s best round of the day, a 1-under-par 71, to finish in a tie for 16th place individually at the CU Heather Farr Memorial Tuesday at the Omni Interlocken Golf Course in Broomfield, Colo.
She was 1-under on the front nine and eagled No. 6, holing a sand wedge on her approach shot from 80 yards. She also had four birdies.
Talley, a freshman from Napa, had earlier rounds of 73 and 73 for a 1-over 217 total, as Colorado placed third as a team.
“There’s a lot of pressure when playing on your home course,” Talley said on the Buffaloes’ athletic Web site. “You know what you are capable of shooting out here and while it’s reassuring to know everything about the course, there are high expectations and you have to really keep everything in perspective. It’s a tournament and not just a practice, but I enjoyed it.”
It was a 20-team tournament.

Lindsay Brown of Napa passed the 2,000 career assist mark for the Sonoma State volleyball team in a 3-0 sweep of Cal State Monterey Bay last Saturday. She is only the third player in school history to accomplish that feat.
She is averaging 9.3 assists per game as the Seawolves’ junior setter.

Jimmy Cacho tied for 35th individually for the Santa Clara University men’s golf team at the St. Mary’s Invitational, which was held earlier in the week at the par-71, 6,639-yard Poppy Hills course in Pebble Beach.
Cacho, who also played golf for Justin-Siena, had rounds of 70, 74 and 76 for a 7-over-par finish. Santa Clara was eighth as a team.
